A breezy day yesterday morning turned into a nice mix of cool breezes off the peak and warm southerlies. No crowds as most of the tourists this Golden Week were either picking flowers or merely going to the onsen.
Seki Onsen Ski Area is still in good shape and will be open a bit longer until the end of Golden Week.
Your Myoko area levels for today: 20cm (Akakura Onsen); 110cm (Seki Onsen); 110cm (Sasagamine: cross country only)
Hakuba is cloudy today with light showers expected at midday. These lower lying clouds may reduce visibility atop the resorts today. The snow on the runs will be soft, slushy and wet, also look out for open patches, exposed stumps/rocks and the many other skiers/boarders trying to milk the last days.
Avalanche Advisory:
Temperatures are rising and water is freely flowing in the snow pack thus slab avalanches to the ground are a definite possibility. Watch out for those precariously hanging slopes of snow on steep convexing terrain and under glide cracks. Move quickly through areas in terrain trap valley bottoms. There will be general loose wet slides on all slopes as surface snow temperatures rise and due to the snow pack being isothermal, ( all right at 0 degrees from ground to surface) Slides can be very big at this time of year so play smart.
Things have cooled down somewhat this morning after a very warm day yesterday. It was still warm overnight but will probably only reach around 23 degrees today. (Yesterday almost felt like summer!)
While it has started fairly bright but cloudy, there is a chance of rain later on this afternoon but that should soon clear up and another fine sunny day is forecast for tomorrow - though temperatures should be around what they are today.
Last day of the season tomorrow at Gala Yuzawa, Naeba and Tashiro - last chance!
Yesterday was very warm in the Nozawa region and with the sun out at times was bordering on 'hot'. This morning there is more cloud around and it has cooled down.
The season has 2 more days to go - today and then tomorrow being the last day of the season. Lifts moving are:
Nagasaka Gondola (both parts) Paradise Four Uenotaira Four Skyline connecting pair Yamabiko No 2 Four Yamabiko Four Nagasaka Four
(Two other lifts at the resort will be running, but they are for pole training and private use).
It is looking probable that the last day of the season tomorrow will bring with it fine and sunny weather. Read more ...
