Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Following on from yesterday, overnight was rather warm and it is already over 7 degrees. The forecast is for temperatures to rise to around 15 degrees and a chance of rain this afternoon, but hopefully that should clear up by the end of the day.

It has also been windy through the night and the strong winds are forecast to continue throughout the day. The strong winds today mean that Gala Yuzawa is closed for the day and may also affect some lift operations at Kagura.

Tomorrow looks likely to be cloudy and not as warm as the last few days have been with the chance of snowfall still lined up for Wednesday and Thursday.   Read more ...

Well after warm weather yesterday the forecast is for a few showers this afternoon possibly turning to snow overnight. The forecast is for broken sunny / snowy skies for tomorrow so the showers will not stay long and we should have some decent skiing by mid week.

Above tree line: Moderate

Tree line: Moderate

Below tree line: Low

N.B. As stated yesterday the hazard will increase with daily warming, especially with direct sunlight or rain. Multiple human triggered loose slides on solar radiated slopes up to 2,800 m as well as naturals running from the rocks and steep convexing slopes. There could be pockets of wind loaded snow that will still respond to the human trigger.

Travel Advisory:
As discussed yesterday: Any amount of rain on the snows surface will rapidly decrease the stability of the already warm upper melt freez layers; solar effect on the snow's strength, cornice failure, rocks and trees as points of weakness rather than strength, isothermal snow pack should all be kept in mind. Rapidly weakening snow bridges in the creeks should also be added to this list.

Furano Now!

Weather conditions: Overcast, snowing.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
There is light snowfall here this morning but it is very fine snow and there is a moderate to strong wind also so it won't be a very nice morning up on the mountain. The spring like temperatures are continuing, - at 8am. The forecast is now predicting snow through the morning turning to rain in the afternoon but they are still giving snow showers every day for the coming week. Yesterday on the mountain the conditions were OK in the morning but by lunchtime the lower slopes were heavy and turning to slush.

These weather conditions are typical of mid April not early March so I am hoping that it will turn around and get cold again before long.

Weather conditions: Low cloud.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday was another postcard clear day. The visibility was good and the winds light. Overnight there has been a dusting of snow in the village and a few cm's up high. It's already warming up, around 0 degrees in the village at the moment and it feels like its trying to rain. The winds will increase today and are expected to become very strong this afternoon. It is undecided if any gates will open today and the upper lifts may not be operating by this afternoon.

We will see a mix of snow/rain showers this morning but by this afternoon we should see steady rain across the mountain. The good news is that by tonight this should return to snowfall and it is forecast to continue for the next few days.    Read more ...

Still very warm here this morning in Nozawa. It’s +9C on the mountain so any weather that rolls in this morning could result in rain unless the temperature drops significantly.
The snow conditions as they have been for the last few days are dismal, but having said that everyone who has been to the top has had great days; Crowds have been light, weather has been clear and there has been soft spring snow at the top.

The forecast is for the temperatures to drop and snow to begin tonight and continue at least until Wednesday. Today there should be light rain across the resort. Winds should be up to 40km/h.

Lifts at present are not operating due to the high winds.

Weather conditions: grey-blue sky & warm

10 Degrees? Oh deary dreary me. A bit cloudy today, with spells of sunshine, it rained in the night which seems to have devestated a lot of areas. There's a lot of dirt in the snow which shows how much snow has melted over the last few days. Yesterdays temperatures soared to 15 degrees as the freezing level stayed high in the sky.

Looking at the weather forecast though, shows us a temperature drop with snow on wednesday!   Read more ...

Today has been another almost warm day here in Shiga Kogen, and this time the warm temperatures have been accompanied by strong winds which has mean a fair number of resorts in the region have been adjusting their lift operations with only limited operations at Okushiga, Yakebitaiyama, Kumanoyu, Yokoteyama - while Ichinose have cancelled their plans to run nighta today.

Rain has arrived this afternoon, but everyone is looking to the skys and the thermometer and hoping that it will be snow by tomorrow. Fingers crossed!   Read more ...
