Sun, morning mist
Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today. The sun is shining at Yamabiko slopes, here in the village it's partly sunny, the morning mist is slowly disappearing. Since it was cold all day and night yesterday the snow in the ski area didn't melt away. But it didn't snow a lot, so most of Hikage is still green.
Kagura tell us that they now have about 30cm up at the top, and plan to re-open their "Main Gelende" tomorrow (Sat) - it's still just a very small part of the resort though, so don't get too excited. Still not enough snow.
This morning looks like it is going to be a bright and sunny day. The clouds and snow/rain of yesterday have cleared and now reveal the "lightly sprinkled" look of the top parts of the mountains here at town level.
Looking at the forecast, the first decent snow seems likely around the beginning of next week.
10cm+ overnight. Flakes continue to fall this morning, with more forecast for the coming few days. The resort say that opening today or tomorrow looks unlikely.
Patches of sunlight are visible, but temperatures in the village are cold. Read more ...

Sunny but cold
After on/off snow and sleet yesterday, the skies have cleared to reveal a couple of cm snow lying on the slopes down to 1000m in places. There's no snow at village level. It's slowly warming up today and is around four degrees at the moment.
More importantly than the minor falls we've had, the temperature has dropped allowing 47 to turn on their snow machines. The sooner they have a base, the sooner the resort can open.
