Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 1st April 2018

Furano Now!

Saturday 5th April 2014, 8:09am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 27cm
Snow depth: 160cm
What a change around. We knew the rain would change to snow yesterday but it dumped a good part of the day to give us up to 25cm. We have had another couple of cm overnight but is becoming wetter.

The wetness does mean the snow is heavy and a bit sticky but the village is bathed in a beautiful white coat again and shovels are back out for snow clearing.
More snow is forecasted for the weekend so conditions can only improve over the day and temps are a little colder then what it has been.

Operating lifts:

Furano Ropeway 9:00am-4:00pm
Furano Downhill Swift Lift #1 CLOSED
Downhill Romance #2 chair 9:00am-4:00pm
Downhill Romance #3 chair 9:00am-4:00pm
Prince Romance 9:00am- 4:00pm

Kitanomine Zone is now closed for the season including the Link Lift and Link Course.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 5th April 2014, 8:29am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 2cm
Snow depth: 110cm
Fresh snow!

Yes, don't get over excited - just a few few cm - but new snow all the same. And it is colder as well this morning.

We had some particularly strong winds yesterday and it is still very windy this morning. Unfortunately, it's limited lifts this morning and it's actually easier to tell you what is moving as the resorts open:

Niseko Grand Hirafu - Ace Family, Ace No2 Center Quad, Holiday No1, King No2, Swinging Monkey
Niseko Village - Banzai chair only
Niseko Annupuri - Jumbo No1 and No2 lifts only

All top lifts on hold as we hope for the wind to decrease. Not sure if we can realistically expect much there I'm afraid. It's windy.

Official snow depth numbers at time of writing:

Grand Hirafu / Hanazono:
Top - 330cm
Base - 110cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 320cm
Base - 100cm

Top - 320cm
Base - 120cm

Niseko Hanazono Resort plans to be open until Sunday 6th April
Niseko Village plans to be open until Sunday 6th April (and then from 26th April until 6th May)
Niseko Annupuri plans to be at least part open until Tuesday 6th May
Niseko Grand Hirafu plans to be at least part open until Tuesday 6th May   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 5th April 2014, 8:45am
Weather conditions: Cloud, blue sky at the moment
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 225cm
Trust me to be away for this weekend. I am in Nagano city at the moment and providing this report to you from here and so going on the official word from the resort as well as a phone call to a friend in Nozawa. Usually in early April there's not going to be much action but...

...the resort is reporting 25cm of fresh snow this morning!

Yes, I had to look twice there, but that's what they have. Uenotaira and Yamabiko both with 25cm of fresh, and some snow down to the village as well... though actually the sun is out now as we approach 9am. Sounds like a good start to the day to me!

There doesn't actually seem to be big changes to what is open this morning, but the Paradise quad seems to be moving.

The forecast for today and tomorrow is a mix of sun, cloud and sometimes snow.

Anyway, today should be a real bonus for people heading up top. I just wish I was! Wrap up well if you are, it's cold up there.

Yamabiko - 320cm
Uenotaira - 225cm

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 5th April 2014, 8:50am
Weather conditions: Mostly cloudy
New snowfall: 5cm
Snow depth: 55cm
Good morning from Hakuba and the snow we were hoping for has arrived, well sort of. Just sprinklings at base - roads are clear - but resorts reporting fresh snow on the mountains.

Here's what the resorts are reporting this morning...

Happo-one: 5+cm
Hakuba Goryu: 3cm at Toomi; 10cm up top
Hakuba 47: 1cm around base; 5cm up top
Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm

Cortina doing well with up to 20cm up there, looks like more like 5-10cm around the Hakuba hills. It's much better than 0cm that's for sure! And it is certainly colder than it has been this morning.

It's not snowing now and just cloudy really. Some hints of blue sky even so it might clear up. Snow clouds may stick in the region though through tomorrow so we might get a bit more out of this.

Once we get to Monday it would seem warmer conditions and sun will be back, so this really might just be the last snow we see this season.

Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 5th April 2014):

Hakuba Goryu:
Plans to be open until early May.
Upper - 210cm
Toomi - 55cm

Hakuba 47:
Plans to be open until early May.
Upper - 165cm
Lower - 30cm

Plans to be open until early May.
Usagidaira - 145cm

Tsugaike Kogen:
Plans to be open until early May.
Tsuganomori - 256cm
Kanenonaruoka - 30cm

Hakuba Cortina:
Plans to be open until 6th April.
Upper - 240cm
Lower - 115cm

Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 5th April 2014, 9:00am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow, bit of sun at times
New snowfall: 5cm
Snow depth: 100cm
Lots of rain yesterday and strong winds at times.

How about that snow? Yes, we have had a sprinkling of snow down here in town overnight with Kagura reporting up to 10cm and Maiko Snow Resort reporting 5-10cm on the slopes. So there's a fairly thin layer on top of the spring conditions this morning for those getting out early.

As I write this report, sun is shining through the clouds and it is snowing lightly. The sun bit is new over the last 10 minutes or so, and it feels like conditions might be about to clear up.

Weather is forecast to be unsettled today and tomorrow, so we might get a bit more snowfall through tomorrow.

From Monday onwards, spring warmth is due to return along with sunny conditions.

It's the last weekend for a bunch of skijo in the region as noted below.

Planned resort closing dates in the region:

Until 6th April:
Ishiuchi Maruyama
Joetsu Kokusai
Maiko Snow Resort - but open again on 12th/13th April
Nakazato Snow Wood
Yuzawa Nakazato
NASPA Ski Garden

Until 6th May:
Naeba (weekends only from 7th April)
GALA Yuzawa
Kagura (Tashiro)

Until 25th May:

These resorts are already closed:

Chateux Shiozawa

Ludens Yuzawa
Mt Granview
Muikamachi Hakkai-san
