As the forecast told us.... it's a clear and sunny, blue sky morning in Yuzawa. Quite chilly overnight getting down to around -3 degrees I see but today the temperature will rise to around 8 or 9 degrees and it will be sunny right through until evening. And, more of the same tomorrow as well but even warmer.
Part open until 10th April: - Kandatsu Kogen - Nakazato Snow Wood
Mostly open until 22nd May: - Kagura (+ Mitsumata) [see Naeba Now for the latest]
All other resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma area are now closed for the season.
Sun, sun, sun and blue skies. That's what we got this morning, deep blue skies and bright white slopes. You will need your goggles/sunglasses today. Kagura is reporting -4 up top so quite a cold start but things will quickly warm up during the day. Tomorrow is going to be very similar but warmer.
Today is going to be one of those amazingly clear and bright days in Nozawa. Early on it is actually quite cold and has been overnight, probably due to the lack of cloud, but the sun is shining down and will surely be rising the temperatures fairly quickly this morning. High of around 7 degrees in the village likely.
And yes, very similar story looking towards tomorrow but while it will keep warm around Thursdsy we might well see some rain move in. That wouldn't be good, but forecasts can change so lets hope it does.
Planned lifts operating until 22nd April (subject to change!):
-Paradise -Schneider -Challenge -Utopia A -Utopia B -Rinkan -Isemiya -Uenodaira Snow Park
There may be the changes to the above on any given day, so if you are planning a visit and this is important it's best to ask just to get the latest! We will endeavor to keep the above updated each day.
The Ryuoo Ski Park resort (which is about 20-25 minutes from Nozawa by car) also plans to be part open on the following days: April 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and also from April 29th until May 8th. Read more ...
Shiga Kogen Now!
Tuesday 5th April 2011, 7:57am
Sunny clear skies
Real contrasts even early on this morning with the fantastic blue skies and the brilliant white of the mountains. As expected, it's a beautiful morning in Shiga Kogen. And today won't be the last in the run of fine weather either as it will stretch out until at least the end of tomorrow and probably Thursday too, getting warmer as well to boot. Easily getting into the positive (temp) by mid-morning I would say here today. With no cloud cover it is getting chilly overnight but daytimes are textbook spring conditions... with still lots of snow around.

There's not much to report this morning other than stunning clear blue skies and lots of sun. A fantastic day to be out there. It got really cold overnight, down to around -6 degrees according to some forecast data but it is passing the 0 mark now and will surely warm up to perhaps 7 or 8 degrees in the village today.
You want more sun? You got it! Tomorrow... more of the same but warmer. Then after that? Thursday... more of the same but warmer still!
Friday might bring rain before the sun returns for the weekend.

It is a warm morning today and there is plenty of melt on the roads around the village already. Spring is definitely here and many of the farmers fields are now devoid of snow, and the fresh green growth is visible already. It looks like another fantastic day out on the mountain with crystal clear skies, no wind and mild temperatures. Furano Ropeway and Furano Downhill Romance #3 chair are both operating. Read more ...

Another bluebird day; another day where it really doesn't feel like spring yet, at least in the early morning. The temperatures should rise today, so we might get a little warm, soft snow (better off the piste, I know, than on the courses).
No real change in snowpack yet; the season hasn't ended yet!
Open Ski Resorts
Akakan (Akakura Kanko): Sky Cable gondola, Hotel No. 3.
Another beautiful Spring day up north with not a cloud in the sky. It was cool overnight getting down to -6 in Kutchan but it's warming up rapidly in the sunshine. The snow is firm in the morning and softening throughout the day. Right up high where it's not got above freezing there's still a little good quality snow to be found. Temperatures are expected to get up into the high single digits and possibly even hit double figures much of this week. A little rain is expected later on Friday but apart from that it's expected to be mostly fine and sunny. There's a possibility at this stage of some snow mid next week. There's still just over 1m of snow on the plains surrounding the mountain so still a little while yet before the farmers can start sowing their fields.
Current Official Snow Depths:
Grand Hirafu: Top - 380 Bottom - 170
Niseko Village: No longer reporting snow depth
Annupuri: Top - 370 Bottom - 160
