Another day of rain yesterday, but as forecast the temperature has dropped and we have snow in the village. At the moment its down to zero in the village. The snow is barely lying, but it might be quite good higher up.
Hakuba NOW! is taking a spring break, so this page will not be updated until April 24. Of the resorts, from April 7, only Hakuba 47/Goryu, Happo and Tsugaike stay open. If past years are anything to go by, north-facing Hakuba 47 will probably offer the longest runs. There is still plenty of snow to enjoy, and the resorts should have no problem staying open
Backcountry fans should note that while the Alpen Route to Murodo (Tateyama) is opening early this year on April 10, both the hotel up there and the ropeway have announced that they do not want people skiing/snowboarding/camping until April 20. The first ten days are for sightseers only. How this works in practice remains to be seen.
Rain in the morning that has turned into snow now. The upper slopes might get a few centimeters of new snow throughout this day. But all in all it's a typical day for onsen. Read more ...

Blue skies for the final day of the Niseko Super Bumps competition. Air temperature at the base of the gondola is +5C, and a slight North-easterly continues to blow. A good crowd has gathered to watch the competition, many holding beer cans in hand and enjoying the sunshine. Read more ...
