Hakuba Now!

Saturday 4th April 2020, 9:04am
Weather conditions: Blue sky and cloud
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Hakuba.

Blue skies and cloud this morning.

The snow around base and lower areas has been noticeably disappearing with spring warmth taking hold yesterday.

Even so, you can still actually slide back down to base at Happo-one, 47 and Goryu. Obviously the best snow cover is higher up on the mountain.

Only the upper area of Tsugaike Kogen remains open so you'll need to ride the gondola back down to base over there.

The information in this table is data reported by the ski resortsNew snowfall (lower)New snowfall (upper)TOTAL ACCUMULATION (UPPER)

IMPORTANT: See below for an explanation of the above data

If the forecasts are correct we might get some snow on the mountain overnight tonight (and overnight tomorrow night?). It will be a warm day today, colder tomorrow.

About the data in the above ‘snowfall as reported by ski resorts’ table
* The table within the above report contains data that is published by individual ski resorts
* The data shown is the amount of snowfall that the ski resorts are themselves reporting each 24 hour period on the upper areas of their mountain
* The source ‘new snowfall’ data and ‘total accumulation’ data is not updated at the same time
* The ‘new snowfall’ data is updated in the morning
* The ‘accumulation’ data is apparently updated/refreshed at midnight
* That means that there is a time lag between the two numbers being updated
* We manually check and update the data just before we publish each Hakuba Now report - so the data in each Hakuba Now report table is what is available at that time
* Any odd-looking numbers are due to the source data. We are not responsible for and have no control over the data. We are simply sharing the data with you
* Just to be extra clear, unlike our own ‘observed snowfall’ data from base that we show at the top of each report, the data in the table is not an independent observation by SnowJapan
* A more in-depth introduction and explanation can be found in this report   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 4th April 2020, 9:07am
Weather conditions: Cloudy, blue sky, sun
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Niseko.

I am always honest with you (of course), so this can be no different: I overslept. Doh!

My apologies. I haven't even had my toast yet. I have another month or so to go before I can go into my hibernation mode. But enough of me.

This morning there is quite a lot of cloud around but blue sky too and the sun is currently shining through my window.

Lifts have started as planned the morning but the forecast shows we might get some moderate southerlies today.

There is still snow mixed in on the forecasts from tomorrow with a chance of some snowfall the following days too. Not sure what to realistically expect from that but it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I think it's always best to be potentially surprised rather than disappointed at this stage of the season.

So what next? Oh yes. Toast!

Weather conditions: Another clear and hazy day
New snowfall: 0cm

Welcome to what very likely is the last weekend of resort skiing in Myoko.

Not that there's any spring backcountry; well, if people take the hiking trails up, it might be fun up on Mt. Hiuchi. The main thing is to get out of the small trees, which never got covered over this season.

It's a nice day out there. Good day to enjoy some spring skiing, and there still is snow up there on the hill. Back tomorrow with the report on any ongoing operations, and a wrap-up of the season.
