Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 26th May 2019
Sunday 4th April 2010, 7:20am
It's a bluebird day for the last day of the main season; it stayed cold overnight, although the sun is likely to warm things up. The snow has hung on great, and it's nice and white—not a lot of the Gobi desert sands to mae things off-yellow.
The word that comes to mind is mottai nai—it's a shame, really. People will rush to a tiny strip of artificial snow at the beginning of the season, but here we are at the end of the season with some really good snow and nice weather, and the season could easily keep going for a week or more, but the resorts are closing earlier and earlier because people just don't come in enough numbers. Walking around last night felt more wintery than late February did!
Anyway, Akakan and Seki are going to remain open until May, they say. Come support spring skiing!
The official snow reports aren't in yet this morning, but figure some loss since yesterday (probably not that much, though, as the temperatures stayed pretty cold).
Akakura Onsen: Ginrei No. 3 and No. 5; Kumado No. 3 Quad, No. 4 Triple; Yodel Super Quad; Akakura Chuo Triple. Kumado No. 3 open for night skiing (5 to 10 p.m.). Last day today.
Akakan: all open (officially, although the Champion B course, and lift, were closed today)
Ikenotaira: Shirakaba Capsule Ikenotaira Quad, Alpen Blick No. 1. Last day today.
Seki Onsen: open (one lift)
Myoko Ski Park: all open. Last day today.
Kyukamura Myoko: closed
Tangram: No. 3 and No. 5 lifts. Last day today.
Madarao: No. 1, No. 2, Super Quad. Last day today.
And fine clear and sunny it is early on this morning with blue skies all around.
We did get some spots of rain for a short time yesterday afternoon along with some strong winds after it had clouded over, and it was quite a cold night, but the clouds have all cleared up this morning.
It is going to be a windy day though in town and Gala Yuzawa have announced that they won't be open today because of the winds. At the time of writing, other resorts seem to be opening as normal.
It is the last day of the season for a number of resorts in the area:
It's sunny! Clear blue skies all around this morning and while it is a cold start, Kagura reporting -4 degrees, it will likely quickly warm up and be very much a spring day out on the sliops. Not much else to report really, perhaps some stronger winds higher up... I will be out there enjoying it!
Tomorrow a day of cloud is forecast.
From tomorrow, less of the Naeba resort will be open for the last week of the season there. The following lifts will be operating:
Prince No2 Gondola No8 quad Daishamen pair Takenokodaira pair
It will still be possible to ride down from the top of Takenodaira lift (NOT the top of the resort) to the base at Naeba.
Official Snow Depths:
Kagura (Tashiro): 310cm
Naeba plans to be open until Sunday 11th April.
The Tashiro part of Kagura plans to be open until Wednesday 5th May.

As you can see from the information posted below, today is the last day of the season for some lifts and courses at Zao and from tomorrow operations will be scaled down somewhat... but still quite a way to go this season, so it is not over yet.

Today is looking like the best day of the week. It was snowing heavily this morning and the snow has just stopped. A layer of 4cm of fresh snow has been left in the village. The sun is now very strong but there is still a layer of cloud in the way. This cloud should lift soon and we should be left with blue sky and sunshine - expect temperatures to get well into the + territory. Read more ...

Blue sky and sun
Another beautiful spring day here in Minakami. The sun is out and the skies are blue. Bit of a change from yesterday afternoon though. We started like this yesterday morning but then the clouds came in, the temperature dropped and snow started to fall. It didn't really amount to much but the snow flurries were quite heavy at times.
It was a cold clear night last night with a bit of frost around this morning which meant that the slopes were pretty hard first thing but they are softening up now with the sun on them.
Last day of the season for Houdaigi today though Tenjin will still be open and becomes the centre for all the park rats from now on. The park gets plenty of attention and is built up so is worth a visit in spring.
The temperatures when the sun is out are creeping up as we move into April and those big piles of snow that have been lying in untouched areas are visibly disappearing day by day. The gardeners and farmers will soon have their land back.
Over the last couple of days we've had a few flurries of snow overnight and fine, mostly sunny days. Today is another bluebird day with mild temps and mostly light winds. In other words another perfect Spring day.
This coming week we can expect a little rain overnight Monday turning to a little snow on Tuesday.
Beyond that, mostly fine - typically for this time of year temps getting above freezing during the day and a little below overnight.
A nice sunny warm day in Hakuba today! Blue skies and clear views of the mountains from all the resorts in the Hakuba valley. A high of 10 C today in the valley and tomorrow is looking a bit cloudy with chance of rain so today is the day for sure!
The resorts today should be a little busier with weekend masses, but still should be little to no waiting in lines as usual.
Great spring conditions on all the resorts that are open and one can still ski from top to bottom! Get out there and enjoy it.
This coming Sunday will be the last day of the season for a few more resorts in the valley, along with some lifts at resorts that remain open for longer. Here is the latest info from around the resorts (subject to change):
Happo-one The following lifts in the Kurobishi/Usagidaira area of the resort remain operating - Gondola, Grat quad, Alpen quad, Kurobishi No2 quad, Kurobishi No3 pair, Skyline No2 pair, Hakuba Kokusai No3 pair AB and the Panorama pair lift. All courses are still skiable and the upper slopes plan to remain open serviced by lifts until 5th May. The Nakiyama area plans to be open until 4th April with the Nakiyama No3 triple AB and Happo Risen quad lifts servicing the area. The lifts in the Shirakaba area of the resort have closed for the season. In the Sakka/Kitaone area, the Saka Kitaone quad and the Kitaone No3 pair will both be operating until 11th April.
Hakuba Goryu The Alps no daira area of Hakuba Goryu plans to be open until 9th May. The Gondola, Alps No1 pair, Alps No3 pair lifts are currently operating.
