Sunny, with some thin high clouds that look like they may disperse
It's going to be an excellent day again today in Myoko. It was pretty warm yesterday, but not blazingly hot—the temperatures have remained cool to cold at night, keeping the snow for us up to the last minute. It also means that the cherry trees are just now starting to bloom, and the mizubasho (I hate writing "skunk cabbage," but that's what they're called) are now at their peak. All good reasons to enjoy the last days of lift-serviced skiing in the area!
Backcountry: excellent conditions and lots of snow. In fact, it's nice that it's warmed up; corn snow time!
Akakan: Sky Cable gondola, No. 3 lift
Seki Onsen: open (one lift)
Current Official Snow Depths:
Akakan (Akakura Kanko): 70cm
Seki Onsen: 350cm (not updated for some time, so figure under one meter, and that only in secluded spots)
Another warm holiday here in Minakami today. Temperatures yesterday peaked at 18 degrees down in the valley and are likely to exceed that today. Plenty of people making use of Tenjin being open but not just the snow lovers. Lots of walkers up there as well as sightseers just milling about and enjoying the sunshine. Steady stream of cars heading up there again this morning so promises to be another decent turn out. Read more ...

As expected, a sunny warm start to the day in Yuzawa and up at Kagura. It is already 17 degrees in Yuzawa, and will soon be rising up over 20 with a forecast high today of around 24 degrees. T-shirt weather, even up at Kagura for some.
Tomorrow will very likely see similar conditions.

Planned closing dates at resorts in Yuzawa:
Wednesday 5th May 2010: Gala Yuzawa Kagura (Tashiro Area)
After a fine and warm day yesterday... it's more of the same today. The sun is out, just some wispy clouds in the sky, and it is warm - we are already into double digit temperatures this morning. Perfect for this Golden Week holiday and there's a fair few people around enjoying what is left of the snow as well as more tourists just being here to enjoy the nature and have a drive.
We even have some nighta at Ichinose Family (last night, tonight and tomorrow night).
The fine weather will very likely continue tomorrow.
Lifts operating until 5th May (subject to change):
A quick update with the latest weather from Hakuba --- and it's very fine. Lots of sun and warm temperatures, rising into the low 20's in the village. It's looking like the last two holidays of Golden Week, tomorrow and Wednesday, will also give us very similar conditions.
There's a lot of people out and about, both on the slopes and also people just in the area to spend some time sightseeing and enjoying the outdoors. And a fine time it is to be doing both!
Just to recap on what remains open: At Hakuba 47 you can still ride down to the base. The connection with Goryu remains open, but only the top area of that resort remains open. Only the upper slopes of Happo remain open and you need to get the Gondola up there (and back down again). From tomorrow until 5th May the resort will be putting on a bus service between the Happo Bus Terminal and the Happo No 3 car park. The upper slopes of Tsugaike Kogen also remain open.
Happo-one - open until 5th May Hakuba Goryu - open until 9th May Hakuba 47 - open until 5th May Tsugaike Kogen - open until 5th May
