Sunny and clear
Once again another blue-bird day here in Hakuba. This is the last weekend for all the resorts, so if you have not already hit up the spring skiing then go for it. Great views today and very warm temperatures for this time of year. Enjoy the end of the season snow!
Temperatures are rising and water is freely flowing in the snow pack thus slab avalanches to the ground are a definite possibility. Watch out for those precariously hanging slopes of snow on steep convexing terrain and under glide cracks. Move quickly through areas in terrain trap valley bottoms. There will be general loose wet slides on all slopes as surface snow temperatures rise and due to the snow pack being isothermal, ( all right at 0 degrees from ground to surface) Slides can be very big at this time of year so play smart.
Sunny skies and warm, ever so slight winds today on Myoko. This afternoon may boast the hottest day so far with southern breezes licking up the slopes early on.
It's t-shirt boarding today at Seki and Akakura Onsen's board park and probably the last run at Akakura before the bald spots start popping up everywhere. But Seki is still in good shape until the 18th.
Your Myoko area levels for today: 20cm (Akakura Kanko Resort); 20cm (Akakura Onsen); 130cm (Seki Onsen); 140cm (Sasagamine: cross country only)
Another warm night and this morning the sun is out and there are blue skies all around with just a bit of wispy cloud here and there. It is already 20 degrees and will rise to around 25 during the day.
Happily it is still looking like it will be similar conditions tomorrow and probably through to the end of Golden Week on Tuesday. Read more ...
