Major Dumpings all day yesterday, with General Dumpings today:) The snow has slacked off for a few hours allowing for a good passage into the resorts, but the afternoon has more heavy snow in store. Snow is scheduled to fall continuously for another week in some form or another.

The plows are humming in the wee hours here in the village with innkeepers' snowblowers buzzing all day every day this week. Yesterday saw double the crowds at Suginohara as New Year home visits have given way to play days this holiday week.

Over 40cm of new snow at the valley this morning with the wind a lot milder that past days. The snow continues to bucket down and is forecast to continue throughout the day.

All fields are currently open but the visibility is poor with low clouds and moderate snow falling. The visibility should improve during the day.

The outlook for tomorrow is now for some more snow but there should be some clear patches through the day.

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 3rd January 2009, 8:16am
Weather conditions: Cloud/ Blue Skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Snow was falling pretty decently yesterday afternoon and into the evening but after driving home at 7 last night and leaving my car out I woke up to no fresh snow on the car at all. Goryu are reporting a fresh 10cms and with blue skies, some clouds and cold temperatures the windblown stashes should be sweet.

Just some light breezes in Echoland but our weather station is reporting strong (+20 m/s) North-Westerlies this morning too. Still snowmen on the radar but with not a lot materializing so far its hard to get too excited...the predominant feeling is definitely "come on, dump already"...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 3rd January 2009, 8:39am
Weather conditions: Light cloud, occasional snow showers
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Light cloud is shrouding the top of Mt Kenashi this morning, and it is an overcast day down here in Nozawa onsen. 20cm of new snow is reported overnight up the top, bringing the snow depth to 190cm. This has been a great week of snow, with more than a meter falling in the last three days! It is currently a chilly -8 degrees on Yamabiko and -1 degree in the village.

After the relentless snow of the last couple of days, it seems as though this system may be running out of puff. Light snow showers are predicted for today, but petering out and making way for some partially sunny conditions tomorrow. Winds are predicted to continue to come from the west but weaken over the next few days.

It's shaping up to be another great day on the slopes, so get out there early and enjoy the fresh snow!

All lifts are expected to operate today (Kandahar only for race training :( )

All courses open except;
Kandahar (only for race training :( )
Grand Prix

No new snow today, high clouds, sun peeking through a little bit.

Temps have been below freezing, so the snow is not icy. Not crowded today, so a great day for cruising.

Only occassional snow forecast until the 8th, but I'll let you know if that changes.

It's still snowing out there, and hasn't really stopped since New year. Conditions are quite breezy with bad visibility from the mid station and up. Both gondolas are open at Naeba with Dragondola access to Tashiro along with normal lift operations at Kagura and Mitsumata.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 3rd January 2009, 10:02am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Sorry about missing yesterdays report but I've had some troubles with my internet connection. Anyway since last report we've had plenty more wet snow fall across the region. I went up the mountain yesterday and headed high hoping to find better quality snow but mainly found very wind packed powder. I dropped into Annupuri bowl and found some reasonable snow although it was fast becoming tracked out. And although quite heavy the snow in Blueberry's in Hanazono was relatively untracked and good fun. Overall though not exactly Niseko at it's best. There's plenty of snow on the ground and pretty much all off-piste areas now have enough snow to have covered most of the sasa and smaller trees. We now just need it to get a little colder and dump some more of that light, dry powder that we normally get at this time of year. From tomorrow onwards through outlook period exactly that it expected to happen with temps dropping a few degrees and snow forecast every day.

Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 3rd January 2009, 10:02am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --

20cm of fresh snow since yesterday and it is still coming down hard at the time of writing. Unfortunately the strong winds higher up persist and still causing problems for Kagura which is not fully open again today (though both the Tashiro and Mitsumata ropeways are operating). Gala is open though at times the lifts might be running slowly and/or stop for a short time, dependent on the wind.

Snow still forecast for tomorrow and also Monday. Looks like we are in for more - good as those snow depths are still not what we might expect for this time in the season. With the new snow though, good conditions out there.

Nighta tonight at the following resorts in Yuzawa:
Yuzawa Nakazato
Yuzawa Park
NASPA Ski Garden

Shiga Kogen Now!

Saturday 3rd January 2009, 10:09am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
More light snow again at times this morning, but it is like it has been --- light snow, nothing to seriously make those numbers rise as we want them too. A few of the resorts are showing an increase but others staying the same as they were. This morning there was just a few cm of snow on the car. But the forecast is still for snow to continue into early next week, so fingers crossed for more.

It is another cold morning with some gusty winds at times but not affecting resort operations.

The following resorts plan to be open for nighta tonight:
Sun Valley
Ichinose Family
Ichinose Diamond
