Myoko Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 7:08am
Weather conditions: Cloudy with intermittent snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
We've got intermittent snows around the mountain this morning, perhaps fizzling out by the afternoon. Twas a great weekend, with plenty of fluff and stuff, and the snowman mark won't be leaving the weather board much this week, so it should prove to be a good first quarter of February for all.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 8:10am
Weather conditions: Snow showers
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Very light snow showers continued through yesterday with cool temps maintaining the good surface conditions. Overnight up to 15cm of snow has fallen across the resort and moderate winds up high has seen continuing drifting on lee side of ridges and deeper snow accumulating in the bowls. Should be great conditions out there today with some continuing snowfalls and near bottomless turns in very light and dry powder. All gates will open today. Avalanche danger is moderate in the back bowl and around the cornice on Higashi One ridge. Also beware of cracks in the snowpack that are opening up around the mountain.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 280cm
Bottom - 125cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 310cm
Bottom - 160cm

Annupuri: (not updated at time of writing report)

Wednesday should be a fine and sunny day, before the weather closes in again on Thursday afternoon bringing snow showers. Around 10cm should fall Thursday night and Friday before another clear sunny day on Saturday.

Recent cold temperatures should have kept the snow in great condition, so there should be plenty of stashes to enjoy!

Some light snow falling this morning at the valley level at present. The forecast is for it to continue until early evening before turning into a cloudy night. In the upper mountains it should amount to up to 20 cm but only around 5cm expected at the valley level.

The remainder of the week is still looking warm and sunny but there is a chance of snow at Tenjin over the weekend as a front moves over from Niigata.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 9:11am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow in places
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Light snow is falling early in higher areas this morning though it's lacking conviction and will more than likely be making way for just generally cloudy weather for the rest of the day. Temperatures wise it is similar to yesterday, a cold breeze but not much more at the time of writing.

So just another sprinkling and fine weather lined up for tomorrow and Thursday on the forecast.

You may have heard on the news that the Mt Asama volcano - located on the border of Nagano and Gunma Prefectures - had a small eruption on early Monday morning. This is not affecting Shiga Kogen in any way, which is to the north... so no need to worry about that.

Light (fairly wet) snow is falling early on this morning with a sprinkling of snow on the ground and top of the car --- probably 1cm or so cover on there. Naeba Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 9:40am
Weather conditions: Light snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No real new snow to report this morning other than a sprinkling and just some light snow falling earlier on. Just a slight breeze and a temperature of -2 degrees at 9am. Light snow falling up at Kagura as well though the snow clouds will probably have moved on by this afternoon.

We should be seeing the sun tomorrow and Thursday with good weather forecast for both of those before more snow is due to arrive on Thursday night and Friday.

Good conditions remain particularly up at Kagura due to the snow of the other day.

All of the gondolas are operating and resort operations as normal.   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 10:24am
Weather conditions: Overcast with snow showers.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It kept snowing off and on yesterday. We'll call it 5 more centimeters. It's nice, it's dry, and we needed it. There are reports of up to knee deep powder on the top of the mountain.

The snow removal machines have been working around my neighborhood the last few days for the first time this season. It's amazing how much snow there is, and how long it takes them to clean it all up, even though they are working at a very brisk pace. Our front sidewalk looks strangely barren after the huge snow piles were removed. I had gotten used to them. Oh well, we'll just start over.

Think Snow. Think Powder. Think cold temps.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 10:48am
Weather conditions: Cloud with some light snow at altitude
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Concrete in the morning yesterday but the blue skies and warm temperatures made for a great spring session day with icy patches, slushy landings and lots of hits for all the free-riders out there. All the skiers and boarders who only eat powder have been staying at home, their loss we say; but we really need a decent snowfall to keep our enthusiasm up as one can only take so many spring-like days at the start of February.

It was pretending to snow in the valley this morning but looked more like dandruff being brushed off the shoulders of those up above and Goryu's report of 1cm of fresh on top didn't create any barging for the Gondola this morning. Not the coldest, -2 measured on top this morning and 1.5 degrees in the valley right now.

Winds were measuring at 15 m/s this morning but seemed to have died off a bit now. Visibility on top doesn't look the best. Forecast is for cold temps overnight and a bluebird day tomorrow meaning it should be fun out there once the snow softens up a bit.

Still no storms on the radar...
