LATE NIGHT UPDATE : Snowing in the streets of Nozawa all night since 3:30pm as expected. Snowfall has not stopped up higher on the mountain all day and throughout the night. Lifts open today! The streets will be caked in snow. The ski season starting pistol in Nozawa has figuratively just gone off with a BANG. More snow expected over the next few days.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 3rd December 2005, 9:18am
Weather conditions: Blizzard
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Last night Niseko started doing what it does best, dumping some of the best quality powder on earth. Temperatures have plummeted across the region and today should have some truly epic skiing. The winds are strong again so deep snow should be found drifting on the lee slopes. Unfortunately the winds will restrict lift operation. Heavy snowfalls are forecast to continue through the weekend.

As we now enter into December most of the bars and restaurants have reopened in Hirafu village. The bars have been offering discounted drinks on their opening nights helping to cause a few sore heads the following days. Those paying customers turning up this weekend who gambled on early season snow will be pretty happy with the deep powder and few people on the slopes.   Read more ...

Snow! Everywhere is white this morning with snow falling and more on its way.

Kagura is currently reporting 100cm, with the Mitsumata area on 60cm - with all of those areas now open (please note that the Tashiro side is not open). Naeba has also opened up another run up top (Takenokodaira - getting there by gondola).

If the snow continues like this we should see Iwappara opening up shortly as well..... another update coming later on today.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Saturday 3rd December 2005, 10:07am
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well it's snowing this morning and temperatures are right down there - a cold morning. The best news is that we have probably had more than 30cm of new snow fall overnight so things are looking real good for more places opening up this weekend if it continues.

As of this morning, part of Yakebitaiyama and Okushiga Kogen have opened up for the first time this season, so the area where you can ride is getting wider.    Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 3rd December 2005, 11:45am
Weather conditions: Moderate snow fall
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --

Continued SNOW and overcast skies in Hakuba today, tomorrow and through the whole week. It is winter in full motion now. The word on the hill is SWEEEET! It is light and dry and there is plenty of it. The Hakuba Mountains received another 15-20cms overnight with a slight loll in the precipitation early this morning, but we are right back in the swing of things now with moderate snow fall (3 cm / hour). There has been no wind to speak of today or yesterday. Tomorrow we could be granted a view of the peaks as there is a good chance that we will have a midday sunny break in Hakuba before it starts to snow again and continue to snow... So tomorrow is the day to play in the Japan Alps.

Happo is un-groomed and the powder is light, fluffy and face shots abound. There wind is calm and the temps fair. In one word... sweetness.

Goryu and Tsugaike are boot high over soft groomed and again light and dry. The snow crystals are beautiful and sparkle in the wisps as you shred though them.
