Nozawa Onsen Now!
Wednesday 3rd December 2003, 9:02am
Right now it's sunny and partly cloudy
Still no sign of snow here in the village. It rained again yesterday. Temperatures are unusually high for this time of year(yesterday night it had about 5 degrees here in the village.) There is a little snow on the Yamabiko slopes (all the way at the top of the mountain), but everywhere else it's green and looks more like spring than winter. So the ski area probably won't open this weekend either.
Another cloudy morning. There was hope for snow last night higher up, but nothing really developed even up on the top of Kagura.
Made a few calls to the resorts this morning to be met with some fairly despondent sounding replies from the staff at the resorts.
Karuga has closed it's run that was open at the weekend, due to the snow that was there deteriorating. They hope that by this weekend they might be able to open up once more, however small a part of the resort.
Naeba still has it's one course open, with artifical snow. (No "real snow" to talk of up there.)
Well, not the huge fall we were all hoping for - not much to measure on the floor this morning, although whiter than yesterday! Strong winds last night, but settling down this morning. Temperatures this morning around -2.
The forecast gives us some hope for more white to arrive tonight.... Read more ...

The clouds have rolled back from the mountains to reveal...no snow. Well, there looks to be a tiny amount at the tops of Goryu and Happo, and a little more over Tsugaike way, but nothing worth scraping your boards for.
