There's snow in them thar hills!
A good dusting of snow on the mountains above 1600m is clearly visible from the valley this morning. Up to 10cm of snow is sitting on the upper peaks, wetting appetites for the upcoming season.
Temperatures dropped to -1 in the valley last night with a current temperature of 8 deg C. The forecast high for today is 12 deg C with mostly cloudy skies. The temperatures are expected to increase over the long weekend but there may be some rain on Saturday, so for all Kouyou viewers( changing of the leaves) Sunday and Monday are the days to go.
Snow showers to low levels continued through much of yesterday and then eased last night. Today will remain cool and cloudy but mostly fine. Another little low pressure system is developing in the Sea of Japan and will pass just south of Hokkaido. Initially it will bring up some milder air and the freezing level will rise above the top of the resort over the weekend with some rain. As the low passes to the east of us early next week the winds will return to more northerly and snow will return to low levels. The upper mountain now has quite a good cover that will certainly last out any rain over the weekend. Read more ...
