The last few days we have seen a lot of heavy rain in the region and as I write this the rain is really belting down. After a rather sticky day yesterday though it feels less humid today and keeping quite cool with a high of just around 15 degrees forecast for the day.
So Kagura had it's last day of the season yesterday and now all of the ski and snowboard resorts in the Yuzawa area are closed.
We will be keeping this Yuzawa Now report section going every now and again over the summer months, so do check in every now and again.
The next major event in the area of course is the Fuji Rock Festival which will be taking place at Naeba in Yuzawa from Friday 29th July until Sunday 31st July 2011. Once again some big names will be coming to Yuzawa. This year the lineup includes Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Big Audio Dynamite, Faces, Asian Dub Foundation, The Chemical Brothers, Feeder, Glasvegas and many more overseas and Japanese artists. Shiga Kogen Now!
Monday 30th May 2011, 10:26am
Well, that's it... the season officially ended yesterday with Yokoteyama just about managing to stay open until the 29th as they had hoped.
So that was the 2010/2011 season. Certainly not a normal one with all that happened, but snow-wise I think we did very well. I can't remember much better conditions than we experienced in January. The events of mid-March certainly finished off the season for many people it seems, even if the ski resorts stayed open and Shiga Kogen was not directly affected by any of the events. We can only hope for the quick recovery of the people affected by those sad events.
Now thoughts turn to summer. Shiga Kogen is a great place to be in summer - as well as the beautiful scenery of course, lots of trekking and enjoying of nature, it is much cooler than places down below. A fine place to escape the city heat.
Some lifts will be moving over summer and as far as I can tell here are the details:
Anyway, enjoy the summer and lets look forward to a strong 2011/2012 season. Regular reporting on this Shiga Kogen Now section will be back after the summer in the run-up to next season. Thanks for reading. Read more ...
