Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 30th April 2016, 7:40am
Weather conditions: Some low cloud, blue skies above that
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 0cm
Morning from Yuzawa.

Yesterday was a pretty nasty day down in town for the most part with some very heavy rain at times and strong winds blowing around at times too. Not nice, apart from a few short spells when things felt like they may be improving... only for more rain to turn up.

Kagura got some fresh snow though and yesterday afternoon the resort were reporting 5-10cm, and this morning an additional fresh 3cm! That will certainly have helped and I'm pretty sure that there will be quite a lot of people wanting to get up there nice and early this morning.

Other Kagura news today is that the Gondola course is now closed.

There's some low cloud hanging on over parts of town just now but it's clear blue skies above that and it should be a fine day. And as forecast a bit warmer than yesterday, rising to around 16 degrees later on.

Tomorrow more sunshine is forecast and it will be warmer still. So should be a fine weekend.

The Tashiro Ropeway / Tashiro area plans to be part open until 8th May.
The Kagura area (via Mitsumata Ropeway) plans to be part open until 29th May.
Whether they can actually remain open until those dates with the amount of snow left remains to be seen.
A bit of fresh snow yesterday and last night was good to see!

The following courses at Kagura remain at least part open:

- Kagura main course
- Giant course
- Mogul (until early May)
- Family Course at Mitsumata (open just to connect to the Gondola - snow mats, no natural snow)

Official snow depth:
Kagura area: 150cm
Tashiro area: 100cm
Mitsumata area: -cm

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 30th April 2016, 7:59am
Weather conditions: Just partly cloudy
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 0cm
We might well be in the final days of the season now but it almost felt like winter again yesterday.

It was cold up there, and I think more than a few people were wishing they have put on a few more layers.

A dusting of snow at higher elevations and on the mountain backdrop add to the 'fresh' feeling this morning.

There's a bit of that winter-like chill remaining but it should warm up more today and the skies are much clearer. Blue skies and sunshine early on with just a bit of thin white cloud here and there. Tomorrow is expected to be a fine and clear sunny day as well, with temps rising to just above 20 degrees again at village base.

Monday is a 'normal' weekday and then we have Tuesday through Thursday as national holidays here in Japan.

Golden Week holidays this year:

* Friday 29th April - Sunday 1st May (3 day long weekend)
* Tuesday 3rd May - Thursday 5th May (3 day holiday mid-week)
* Saturday 7th May - Sunday 8th May (normal weekend)

Niseko Now!

Saturday 30th April 2016, 8:16am
Weather conditions: Mostly cloudy, some blue sky
New snowfall: 2cm
Snow depth: 0cm
Hello from Niseko and guess what... there's a bit of snow on the top of my car this morning.

Just a thin layer but there's enough to add a little to the season snowfall tally which ends April - and very probably the season - on 992cm.

Niseko Grand Hirafu have actually added 5cm to their upper area snow depth this morning so you know where to head.

There is quite a lot of cloud still hanging around but a bit of blue sky as well. It's chilly too, so don't go out without an extra layer this morning. Tomorrow will very probably be warmer and then Monday and Tuesday warmer still - though it still won't be getting much over 15 degrees here at base.

It's....'Golden Week'.

* Friday 29th April - Sunday 1st May (3 day long weekend)
* Tuesday 3rd May - Thursday 5th May (3 day holiday mid-week)
* Saturday 7th May - Sunday 8th May (normal weekend)

Monday and Friday next week are 'normal weekdays'.

Thursday 5th May is scheduled to be the last day of the official snow season here in Niseko.

The resort is 'upgrading' the King Number 3 triple lift in time for next season. As part of that work the Hirafu Gondola, King Number 3 and 4 lifts have all now closed for this season. Niseko Grand Hirafu plans to remain open until Thursday 5th May.

Courses open - Large, Center, Shirakaba (Spring Park)

Niseko Annupuri plans to be open until Thursday 5th May with the Gondola, Jumbo 1 and Jumbo 4 lifts operating.

Grandeco Now!

Saturday 30th April 2016, 8:43am
Weather conditions: Fair blue skies
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 30cm
Good morning from Grandeco.

It was snowing last night!

Just 1cm of snowfall but the mountains are definitely looking more white than yesterday.

It is actually very cold this morning but should start getting gradually warmer again over the next few days.

More cloud is expected tomorrow and some forecasts tell us to perhaps expect some rain.

There are no other ski resort open in Fukushima at this moment.

If the rainbow 3500 course becomes unusable, Grandeco will end the ski season and stop operating the Number 2 lift but will keep operating the Gondola until 8th May for sightseeing tourists and the kid's sled area which is located in near the gondola peak station.

Also, trekking guide tours to the Dekodaira marshlands which are a 30 minute walk from the gondola peak station will start from 1st May. It is a good tour to feel the early spring on the mountain. Snow boots rental is available for this tour.

Operating lifts:
Gondola and Number 2 lift

Opening courses:
Rainbow 3500 upper part (1km long. 5m wide)   Read more ...
