That's it folks! The end of another long season at Kagura. It seems an age ago when the Naeba resort closed and Kagura has once again done really well and stayed open until almost the end of May. It hasn't been a very nice day here to be honest with rain falling, but there were still people coming for their last slide of the season.
It has been a season full of news once again. Tons of snow in January, a warmer spell in February and then of course the big Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11th and the more local earthquake on the morning of March 12th. Naeba closed early in April and of course Tashiro was closed early as well for reasons of saving electricity. Some more snow after that in April and the resort being able to keep open until 29th May with even the Mitsumata areas managing to stay open until 27th May. Not bad going at all.
The good snowfall was welcome... the other things not so much. Let's hope that for 2011/2012 the only big events are the quantity and quality of snow in the region!
It's going to get hotter from now on, so enjoy the summer months. Naeba Now will be back with you again in autumn as we prepare for the next winter season.
In the meantime the Yuzawa Now report area will get some updates over summer so keep any eye on that page as well.
