It is a beautiful morning here in Yuzawa. Clear, blue skies and sunshine.
Temperatures dropped below zero overnight so quite chilly but it should warm up soon enough, enough to bring us into double digits later on. More of the same to follow tomorrow as well, though warmer still.
The last weekend of the season for a number of places, but some of course continuing on until May. See below for more of the details.
The wind is blowing relatively strong up high, but snowdrift development is minimal. The temperature is inverted, low in lower altitude and higher up high. Peak gates are expected to open from the morning. A medium scale climax avalanche (250cm crown, 60m wide, 50m long full depth slide, running for 200m) has occurred in Mikaeri bowl around 700m altitude. The ground vegetation is bamboo grass and the grade is 40°. Risk of similar slides will rise around 900m areas over the weekend. If a climax slide occurs in Osawa or Kozan no sawa (Backbowl) 1100m area, it will be big, devastating everything on its way, debris running all the way down to the water reservoir in Annupuri. Many traverse tracks from gate 2, across Osawa, to the Backbowl were present yesterday. It is not wise to ride those potentially hazardous slopes. We may be forced to close the peak gates if people keep ignoring the heads-up and/or cannot imagine the consequences of those slides. One foolish track will lead many others to do the same and unnecessarily increase the chances of accidents to happen. Please respect the Niseko Rules in order to protect the freedom of out of bounds riding.
Niseko Hanazono - open daily until Monday April 6th Niseko Village - open daily until Tuesday April 7th and then April 29th until May 6th Niseko Annupuri - open daily until Wednesday May 6th Niseko Grand Hirafu - open daily until Wednesday May 6th Read more ...
