And yesterday sure was snowy.

There's lots of new snow to play in with the snow of yesterday and last night... and it's still snowing early on today. It's very cold too - it's been well below zero since yesterday morning. While it's still snowing early on, the forecast is for it to clear up later in the day.

If you don't mind the cold.... on the whole, great conditions!   Read more ...

Another 30+cm of snow overnight! This should be enough to cover the icy bumps, which made it really tricky yesterday. Only at the Yamabiko slopes the snow underneath was soft too.

Challenge course is closed due to a ski race until.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Sunday 27th February 2005, 8:12am
Weather conditions: Light snow flurries with some clear spells
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --

Avalanche Advisory:
With the 20-25cm of new snow that we have recieved overlying a solid melt freeze crust we will be seeing increased sluffing and loose slides with warming temperatures and solar radiation today. Generally sluffs will be small and insignificant, yet there is a possibility on easterly aspects for larger slabs to fail on the wind crust of last week. These slabs will generally be upwards of 50cm in depth. These slabs will be large, fast and will be carrying the melt freeze layer near the top, thus producing debri of mixed dense snow, ice and fresh powder. These slabs will generally will be produced in areas near the ridge top, around convexing rocky or sparsly treed slopes in the alpine and at tree line. Below tree line should stabilise with increase solar radiation.

ALPINE: Considerable Natural avalanches possible. Human-triggered avalanches probable.

TREELINE: Moderate. Natural avalanches unlikely. Human-triggered avalanches possible.

BELOW TREELINE: Low. Natural avalanches very unlikely. Human-triggered avalanches unlikely.

A bluebird morning, but with promise of snow later in the day. No new snow overnight and with the weekend crowds upon us, expect most of yesterday's powder to rapidly disappear. Hanazono is recommended this morning and then on to Annupuri to search out any of the remaining stashes.   Read more ...
