Geto Kogen Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 7:22am
Weather conditions: Fine, thin cloud
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Morning from Geto Kogen.

Yesterday ended up being a mix of clearer weather and a bit of rain.

This morning has started off fine but there's a good chance of things clouding over. But it won't be raining according to the forecasts, generally pretty decent weather.

No wind too.

The resort is still reporting over 2m of snow on the upper slopes and good cover so there's still fun to be had as we approach the last week of the season.

Official snow depths:

Top: 225cm
Base: 95cm

The Number 1 Gondola is operating, possibly Number 1 pair   Read more ...

Morning from Appi.

No changes to operations to report with the five lifts still moving (when weather allows - I think there was some disruption yesterday) and planning to be moving through until the end of Golden Week on Sunday 6th May. At the time of writing you can still ride from top to base as well.

Good stable weather conditions are forecast for the coming weekend. More unstable weather is currently forecast for the second part of Golden Week.

If you are planning on being around over the next week, I recommend that you check with the resort.

This may need to be my last report until later next week. Hope you have a good Golden Week!

- 3rd May is 'Constitution Day' (Kenpo-kinenbi)
- 4th May is 'Greenery Day' (Midori-no-hi)
- 5th May is 'Children's Day' (Kodomo-no-hi)

What this means for 2018 is that most people will enjoy two long weekends - 3 days this upcoming weekend and then 4 days off the weekend after:

Long Weekend #1: Saturday 28th April - Monday 30th April
Long Weekend #2: Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th May

Some people may even be lucky enough to have/take Tuesday and Thursday off next week, giving them a long 9 day holiday!   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 8:47am
Weather conditions: Fine, cloud
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
It's kind of fine this morning but quite a lot of thin high cloud around. That kind of mix is what is on the forecast for the day, perhaps clearer and warmer tomorrow.

Things usually get warm over Golden Week - looks like this time should be no different - first part of Golden Week anyway.

As you can see on the Paradise course image below, snow is starting to look a rather patchy now, though still pretty much full cover on Yamabiko.

Nozawa still plans on being open through May 6th.

Later today the resort will probably announce what they plan to have open over the weekend; I'll check and update this report later on. (Updated below)

---

UPDATE AT 6PM

The resort have announced plans for operations tomorrow through Monday. And here they are:

Lifts planned to be operating:

- Uenotaira quad
- Paradise quad
- Yunomine pair

Courses planned to be open:

- Yamabiko
- Kokenashi (restrictions on B course)

- Paradise (restrictions)

Niseko Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 8:48am
Weather conditions: Bright but overcast hazy
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Hirafu.

I think Mt Yotei has disappeared!

Or, it might just be very hazy. I'm hoping the latter! It is quite bright this morning but that haze is the headline, I would say. Hopefully it might get a bit clearer.

It's not due to get that warm today, still not really getting up into double digits... tomorrow should be warmer.

Yuzawa Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 9:15am
Weather conditions: Overcast for now
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Yuzawa.

It is a grey and overcast kind of morning here. We might get some sunshine, with a higher chance of that tomorrow. Highs of around 20C on both days.

The ski resort news this morning is from Kagura: looks like the Mitsumata Family course and Gondola line course can now only be used as 'connecting courses' to ride back down to the top of the Mitsumata Ropeway due to the snow drying up. Skiing and snowboarding should be left to the main Kagura and Tashiro areas.

Minakami Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 10:14am
Weather conditions: Sunny
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Morning from Minakami.

Last weekend was getting very warm - more like summer than spring almost - though it has calmed down a bit since then.

The snow is continuing to melt away, but there's still some ski lift accessed action available up at Tenjindaira with two courses available - they are this morning reporting 50cm of snow depth (but that's just on the courses, lots of ground showing around them now).

Tenjindaira still hopes to be able to remain open for skiing/boarding until 6th May which is the last day of the upcoming Golden Week holidays.

Whether it will be able to do that with the remaining snow remains to be seen...

Please check with them before going!

Hakuba Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 10:16am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
It's Friday morning and tomorrow is the start of 'Golden Week' (see below for more on that).

Are we going to have Golden Week-like fine weather? Well, looks like the first part - the upcoming 3 day weekend - should be fine weather and getting quite warm. The second part of GW looks more unclear at the moment but we'll deal with that nearer the time.

For now there is a lot of cloud about. There might be a little rain later on. But we should be looking at clearer skies in time for tomorrow morning.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 27th April 2018, 10:22am
Weather conditions: Generally cloudy
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Good morning from Shiga Kogen. I thought I would update again this morning as Ichinose Family has now closed as of the end of yesterday... and there's more news:

Yakebitaiyama have cut their season short and will just have their Gondola operating from tomorrow until Monday; and that's your lot.

There's an adjustment for Okushiga Kogen as well - their Number 6 lift will now only be open until Monday, but other lifts still plan to be running through until 6th May as things stand currently.

The ski lifts at Yokoteyama and Shibutoge have now confirmed that their last day of the season will be on Monday 30th April.

I think that's it for changes.

I'm not going to be able to post a report over the weekend; hopefully early week. I wonder if there'll be any other changes...

Cloudy this morning.

Sunny conditions forecast for the weekend.

You can get to Shiga Kogen from the south via Manza, but the part of Route 292 that connects Shiga Kogen and Kusatsu in Gunma is currently closed.
