Minakami Now!

Thursday 26th March 2020, 7:38am
Weather conditions: Scattered clouds
New snowfall: 17cm
Snow depth: --
It was all time yesterday and fully reset on the mountain after heavy snowfalls all day on Tuesday. Managed to be one of the first down and there were just a handful of us lapping until another 10 or so showed up after half an hour. The snow had settled but was, soft, smooth and very fast. It's been rather cold over the past few days but unfortunately that looks to be ending sometime this morning with highs of 7C expected right up at 1500m...

More of the same warm conditions plus some rain expected Friday before it cools down and snows a little Saturday night. That was forecast to be a solid dump until this morning but was downgraded to just a few cm.

It has been a great March with plenty of cheeky powder days and nobody around, but unless Saturday night surprises to the upside, things could deteriorate quickly.

** Snowfall number recorded this morning is from yesterday morning

About the data in the above ‘snowfall as reported by ski resorts’ table
* The table within the above report contains data that is published by individual ski resorts
* The data shown is the amount of snowfall that the ski resorts are themselves reporting each 24 hour period on the upper areas of their mountain
* The source ‘new snowfall’ data and ‘total accumulation’ data is not updated at the same time
* The ‘new snowfall’ data is updated in the morning
* The ‘accumulation’ data is apparently updated/refreshed at midnight
* That means that there is a time lag between the two numbers being updated
* We manually check and update the data just before we publish each Hakuba Now report - so the data in each Hakuba Now report table is what is available at that time
* Any odd-looking numbers are due to the source data. We are not responsible for and have no control over the data. We are simply sharing the data with you
* Just to be extra clear, unlike our own ‘observed snowfall’ data from base that we show at the top of each report, the data in the table is not an independent observation by SnowJapan
* A more in-depth introduction and explanation can be found in this report   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Bluebird day
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: --
Another day of sun and blue skies.

And it's pretty nice, now that we're near the end of the season. Things are better on the hill; our two days of snow covered up some of the bare spots, so it's white and shiny out there.

And those mountains; ah, it is nice to be here.... even in a season that wasn't so great for snow, and now of course, as everything seems to be shutting down (although for good reasons, we know).
