Unfortunately, after fine weather during the daytime we had a bit of rain at the end of the day yesterday.
It didn't last too long and this morning we're back to fine weather. Feeling quite cold too.
Fresh snow would be nicer, but it should be a good morning out there.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Cloud, some blue sky
Good morning from Nozawa.
I don't have a whole lot to report really. A fine day yesterday with warm conditions. Today quite a lot of cloud around, some blue sky and happily it won't be quite as warm perhaps rising to around 3C or 4C at base later in the day.
Forecasts still aren't showing a whole lot of snow potential into next week as the 'warmer than normal' conditions seem set to continue for at least a bit longer.

Good morning everyone. Still with me? There's still a month left yet, you know! Hopefully before then we'll have a return to some winter weather and fresh snow...
This morning it's rather grey and cloudy, actually the top of the mountain is shrouded and not visible at the moment.
I reckon it might clear up though.

Cloud, blue sky
Hello and good morning to you all.
What do we have going on this morning? Well, no fresh snowfall to report but it does feel pretty cold outside. It is mostly cloudy but there is some blue sky as well. All is expected to be open this morning.
195cm of observed snowfall so far here at base in February 2019. Last season we got 299cm in February, so with little chance of any/much being added in the next two reports, we are going to be about 1m behind for the month compared with last year. I will of course do my usual monthly season so far thingy in a report at the beginning of March (probably on Friday).
There is still quite a while to go, of course, but I have today added the planned closing dates of each of the resorts below. Perhaps to just show how much there is left!
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Mountain Base 6.00am: -6°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -6.8°, WNW4.29m/s. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 250cm. Annupuri 1100m: -10.2°, W4.1m/s. Hirafu Peak: -10. Hirafu 1000m: E1.8m/s, no new snow. Village Mizuno no Sawa: -8.59°, WSW6.2m/s, no new snow. Kutchan Weather Station: -2.3°, WSW3.3m/s, snow depth 152cm Cape Benkei: NNW8m/s, Cape Kamui: S3m/s, pressure 1017hPa, wave 0.9m.
Cold air continues to flow into the area, freezing the mountain but not bringing any snow. From observation the avalanche risk is low and all gates are expected to be open. The groomers are rough in places. There is a runaway danger. When on the ridges beware cornices collapsing, sometimes they break a lot further back than you would expect.
As the isobars move closer together the wind will get stronger, keep an eye out for a sudden weather change. Keep an eye ahead for cracks, they are hard to see from above. You may find some opening at the bottoms of slopes as well. Have an accident free day.

Cloud, fine (and increasingly so)
Good morning from Yuzawa.
A warm and sunny day yesterday. This morning there has been a lot of cloud around but increasingly sunshine is breaking through and breaks in the cloud. The photo below from Maiko was taken about an hour ago, the other two just 5 minutes ago and you can see the varying conditions.
Today shouldn't be as warm as yesterday (when it was getting close to 10C) but it will still probably get up to around 5C during the afternoon.
Anyway, nice morning. I'm going to get some 'spring skiing' in I reckon!

Good morning from Hakuba.
It was a fine 'spring ski' kind of day yesterday with clear blue skies in the afternoon and then a beautiful evening.
This morning there's limited visibility on the mountain with a lot of cloud around. Not too cold but there might be some hard conditions early on. It's expected to be clearer as the day goes on today and won't be warming up quite as much with a high of about +4C forecast for the village.
There does seem to be a bit of snow on the forecast around Thursday still, though there is a good chance that it will rain down in the village. (Please can we avoid that). Let's see.
Ski resort information on Tuesday 26th February 2019: The below info is checked manually each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. All ski resorts in the area are currently open. Any further resort specific notes made below.
It is a little colder this morning at -6c and later in the day the high will peak at -3c. Things change quickly with weather, and 30 minutes ago conditions were clear affording a view of the whole resort, looking back from town. That has changed and low valley cloud has come across the ski resort and overhead it is high overcast. The cloud cover is thin though and the sun is pushing through and warming the village. It is forecast to stay mostly cloudy in the morning, with some light snow forecast in the afternoon. Overnight we have receive 1cm.

Fair some clouds
It is a bit warm and sunny again this morning. Due to the warm temps, there is some mist in the air so it is not as clear as it was yesterday.
Sorbet like snow condition in the base areas with some harder snow on the upper course. Not perfect! But still better than sitting here typing, I would guess. ;)
If you check out the tree run course, be aware of the holes around the trees.
The weather should be fine for the whole day today. A good day to hike up perhaps...

Mostly clear and sunny, bit of cloud remaining
Good morning from Shiga Kogen.
There was more cloud/gas around when I got up earlier, clearer now and the sun is out.
And that's about it really.
Ah, sorry. There is a chance of some snow still around Thursday and Sunday. Might it be enough to give us a nice new layer...? We shall see. It feels way to soon to be talking about full-on spring. I am hopeful.

The spring-like conditions continue this morning. More cloud around than there was yesterday, but the sun is out and there's some blue sky up there. It's not as warm as yesterday as we hope for temps to remain low.

Cloud, blue sky, sun in places
Good morning from Zao.
Cloudy with some breaks and sun shining through in places but it should be a fine day today. Again the summit is recording a temperature of -8C while at base they are reporting +1C as of 9am.
Some light snow possible on Thursday but it looks like it would be just that... very light. We can't reasonably expect anything big.
Looks like the Paradise Number 3 lift is on hold this morning. Not sure why. Will investigate.

Appi Kogen Now!
Tuesday 26th February 2019, 9:19am
Sunny skies, some cloud
Hello from Appi,
It’s a clear sunny morning with light winds and so-so temperatures. The clouds may roll in this afternoon abut will clear again tomorrow. Unfortunately no snow in the forecast but at least we’ll have below zero temperatures until Sunday to keep what we have on the slopes.
We’re back with the positive temperatures on Sunday and yet again more rain heading our way.
This morning you can expect the slopes to be icy until the sun has a chance to loosen up what's there. Take your sunscreen and enjoy a few quiet runs this morning.
Planned lift operations & course areas (subject to change due to weather conditions):
- Appi Gondola - Central Quad lift - Central Number 2 - Central Number 3A - Central Number 5 - Sailer quad - Vista quad - Nishimori
* All 5 tree run areas should be open as normal when the lift operations allow - register to use them at Plaza 1st Floor
Official groomed snow depth (as reported by resort):
Gray today. I keep writing this, don't I.... but it is a very springlike (and not in a good way) period we're going through. No snow or rain last night, mild temperatures. No wind, fog up high. Seems like waiting for something to happen on days like this. Looks like it might get sunny, which would make it a more pleasant springlike experience (and I want to say "springlike" cause there's still a chance for monster March snows to remind us what Myoko powder is all about. After most people have gone home).
I was planning on a carbon copy of yesterday but today's sunshine was served with strong winds. Still made it to the peak of Mt Tanigawa but conditions were average to say the least.
Tomorrow promises more sun and after that the forecast is somewhat confusing. Snow showers at 1500m and rain at lower altitudes but just clouds for the Minakami town forecast. Basically sounds like nobody knows.
Looks like the weekend will be fine and let's hope so as the Tenjin Banked Slalom race is planned for Saturday and Sunday.
