Snow and weather reports posted on Monday 6th May 2019
Thursday 26th April 2012, 8:30am
After the warm and very hazy day we ended up getting yesterday, this morning is very windy and right now cloudy but it will likely soon be raining.
The report is easy today though - all areas of Kagura and Gala Yuzawa are closed due to the weather conditions. So there's basically nowhere open in Yuzawa today. Time for an onsen!
Rain is forecast for the day, with a high of around 19C. Tomorrow will hopefully see the winds calm down and the rain clear up and we do still have sun forecast for the weekend.

Clear and sunny
It's a windy morning in Niseko and the wind is affecting the lifts at both Grand Hirafu and Annupuri early on, as noted below. Generally cloudy but a few spots of clearings in the cloud, but the main headline of the day is those winds. Look for a high of about 14C later on in the day and this evening there's still that chance of a bit of rain. Looks like we might escape that during the day though. Actually there's a chance tomorrow might also see these strong winds continue.
Clear and sunny conditions are currently forecast for the weekend.
Current lift operations (26th April 2012 @ 8:30am):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 [STANDBY DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS] King Lift #4 [STANDBY DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS] The Hirafu Gondola will operate on 28th, 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Annupuri: Annupuri Gondola Jumbo No1 quad Jumbo No3 pair Jumbo No4 pair [STANDBY DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS]
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
It's raining this morning in Hakuba. Though I suppose we'd prefer to get the rain done and gone before Golden Week starts. And it looks like it should be clear and sunny and warm for at least the first half of Golden Week - clear conditions are forecast from tomorrow right through until at least Tuesday. Warm as well and we will more than likely see it warm up to 20C and possibly above over the weekend.
It's a bit cooler today actually because of the rainy conditions with a high of around 14C which is about what we are on now. There's a bit of wind early on, and perhaps stronger winds later bit later - always a chance that they might affect lifts, but hopefully not...

Snow conditions are still excellent for this time of year and on the Furano side there is only a minimal amount of grass starting to break through. The Furano Zone is skiable from top to bottom and is offering good spring snow conditions. There is a breeze today which is most welcome given the warm conditions. We are now into the run up to the end of the season with the last day of operation being May 6. Read more ...

Mostly cloudy with occasional sun
Big wind today -- it's eating the snow, and closing Akakan for the day. Looks like Seki is going, but no info coming in yet (the lift there is better shielded against the south/weest winds). It's getting a little thin at Akakan at the base, but you can still ski all the way down to the gondola. Not bad for this late!
Akakan: Closed today due to high winds; Sky Cable Gondola and No 3 lift will stay open through Golden Week Seki Onsen: Open through May
Grey outside in Minakami today with light rain falling. It's warm but wet and there is a bit of a breeze around with wet, soft snow at the top. The forecast says it will keep raining for most of the day too. Though once this has passed we are set for several days of high temperatures and bright sunshine - just in time for Golden Week. Currently it is the ropeway and two lifts at the top open.
