Clear (town); clear (Kagura)
The rain didn't last that long yesterday and it was a clear evening. Another chilly one with temperatures dropping to around +2 degrees.
This morning it's hazy kind of clear and the sun is making things bright and a current temperature or 9 degrees in town with a high of around 15 degrees likely this afternoon. Kagura is reporting +4 degrees as of 7:30am. We might see a few spots of rain this evening but hopefully that will hold off until after Kagura closes. It doesn't look like it will be snow up there even.
Things will really warm up tomorrow though and in town the forecast is for a high of around 24 degrees. That's getting really warm - but a borderline hot Golden Week is not particularly surprising.
The Golden Week holidays in Japan officially start on Friday. Friday and then Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week are national holidays in Japan. With some people taking Monday and Friday off next week, it's a 10 day holiday for some people!
Fine weather this morning in Shiga Kogen. It has been changeable conditions since the last report on Friday and it looks like we are in for more this week with generally fine but rain and perhaps even snow higher up at times over the next few days. This morning we have generally clear but hazy skies and a temperature of around 3 degrees early on.
Friday is a national holiday in Japan and the first of the "Golden Week" holidays. Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th May are also national holidays. We are entering the last week or so of resort operations for some more places - details below.

Clear and hazy
A hazy but bright morning in Zao. 2 degrees in the village at the moment but by this afternoon we are probably looking at a temp. of around 10 degrees. Rain likely tomorrow unfortunately, even higher up on the upper slopes.
It looks like the resort will now be open until Sunday 8th May. There has been conflicting information over the last week or so as to whether the resort would open until the 5th or the 8th May, but the resort now has the 8th May on their official site and so surely that's the end of the speculation!
The courses will be serviced by the following lifts:
Chuo Ropeway Sky Cable Zao Ropeway Chuo No1 Pair Chuo No2 Pair Katakai Triple Paradise Pair Utopia No2 Pair Shobunuma Pair
The above information is subject to change. Spring lift ticket rates will apply. Read more ...

Temperatures are very warm today and will hit a high in the mid teens. Early morning will be the best time to be out there. Expect slopes to soften up quickly and get quite slushy especially if the high cloud passes and the sun breaks through. It could be a very pleasant spring day if the sun comes through, although there may be some rain later in the afternoon. Read more ...

Kagura got some fresh snow overnight on Saturday and with decent weather on Sunday it was a decent day up there... and busy too with a fair few people coming out. Strong winds and some rain yesterday but no new snow reported this morning.
There's some light blue sky on show behind some cloud and a generally fine morning with Kagura reporting +4 degrees earlier on. The forecast for the day is clear with cloud and light rain later on this evening. Looks like more rain tomorrow night as well with a slight chance it might be snow high up. After that clearer weather on Friday and Saturday.
"Golden Week" is fast approaching. Basically there are 4 national holidays in Japan over this period - Friday 29th April and Tuesday 3rd until Thursday 5th May. So this weekened is a 3 day weekend, followed by three holidays midweek next week. Take two holidays on Monday and Friday next week to get a 10 day stretch of holidays. Sounds tempting.
There is still great snow cover even in the lower Mitsumata areas of Kagura, so it should be great for some spring skiing/boarding over Golden Week.
Official Snow Depth:
We will post updates to this Naeba Now section a few times a week until the end of the season at Kagura. At the same time, the Yuzawa Now report area will continue to be updated on a daily basis including any information on Kagura as well. So please keep an eye on that report as well for the most up-to-date information on Kagura. Read more ...

It's sunny today, with high thin clouds that look like they might build up through the day; rain is ahead, the forecast says, so you might want to join the fairly large group of people I just saw in the Akakan parking lot for a few turns.
Yesterday's rains actually resulted in a little snowfall, although nothing to mention in the report. It stayed clear, except right above the mountain, with beautiful wind-driven clouds rising high over the peak, occasionally dropping some precipitation. Might have been a lot at high altitudes, even....
