The Tashiro Ropeway did get going yesterday, just later than usual.
Strange conditions really with Naeba mostly overcast and cloudy in Naeba and some poor visibility up top especially in the morning, but much clearer over at Kagura and down in Yuzawa.
It's a cloudy start to the day again here. 5C here at base in Naeba. Not much of a wind and Naeba and the Kagura areas will be open as planned.
Chance of light snow (sleet or in a worst case, rain) later on today.

OK well we are now into the last week of the season at Madarao Kogen.
It's a cloudy start to the day here this morning, temps. currently hovering just above zero and... cloudy. Chance of light snow or something less white falling from the skies later on. Keeping fingers crossed there.
Not much else to report really this morning! Weekend crowds are gone and it should be a quiet weekeday.
The resort plans to be open until Sunday 31st March. Read more ...

Cloud, clearing up more blue sky appearing
No new to report from Niseko this morning.
It has been a cloudy start to the day and it's nice and calm. Calm both in terms of weather and the number of people venturing out on the lifts.
Thin clouds seem to be moving away leaving us with an increasing amount of blue sky over the region. Looks like it should be a fine day here.
A cold morning so expect icy conditions early especially.
Some lifts are now closed as the number of people on the slopes decreases:
Niseko Annupuri - Jumbo Number 2 pair and Family pair Niseko Village - Morino Chair Niseko Grand Hirafu - Ace 1, King 1, King 2, Ace 4
Official Resort Snow Depths
Grand Hirafu & Niseko Hanazono Top - 500cm Bottom - 230cm
Niseko Annupuri Top - 400cm Bottom - 250cm
Niseko Village Top - 450cm Bottom - 220cm
Niseko base 6am: -7C, no new snow, sunny. Annupuri peak: -12.5C. Coastal data: wind SSE3m/s, 0.5m waves, pressure 1010hPa.
After a cold night the snow is hard but should start to soften up by about 10am. Peak gates are expected to open at 9.30am.
Photos of full depth avalanches are posted in front of the gates. Please check, spring avalanches are large scale. They occur regularly in the Niseko area and there have been many near misses. A crack and full depth avalanche can occur simultaneously with no warning, and occur regardless of air temperature. They are difficult to predict, but can be avoided with care. Avalanches are a natural occurrence. If nobody is caught in one, it is not an accident. Avoid riding valley bottoms. Around 1000m, leeward slopes, deep snowdrifts below ridge lines and steep slopes where cracks have already occurred, are obvious places for spring avalanches. Avoid riding these areas. Accidents happen from overconfidence and cavalier attitude. The leader of the group takes on responsibility for everyone in the group. Have a safe day. Be careful of cracks, trees and loosing control. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Monday 25th March 2013, 8:59am
It's a cloudy start to the day in Nozawa Onsen this morning with the chance of conditions clearing later on this afternoon.
We're still looking to tonight for some possible snowfall in Nozawa, especially on the upper slopes of the resort. Some local forecasts have it borderline rain lower down at village level. Whatever, tomorrow should clear up into a fine day but keep cool. We will probably be back to warmer conditions from Tuesday.
A few small patches of ground have started to show on lower slopes near village level now. Not much but they tend to grow quickly once you start seeing them. Ah well, unfortunately winter can't last forever!
Some resort news this morning - from Monday 1st April until the last day of the season at Nozawa Onsen (planned for Monday 6th May), cheaper lift prices will be available. The revised prices are as follows:

Half day: Adult - 2500 yen Child - 1000 yen Senior - 2000 yen
Lifts operating: All lifts operating except Yunomine Pair Mizunashi Triple Challenge Pair Utopia Pair Hikage Number 2 Pair B line

A warm day again yesterday with temperatures rising to above 15 degrees at base, and Hakuba 47 was reporting a temp. of 10C as of 3pm on hill. A fine day, turning out to be more silvery grey than blue, but bright all the same.
This morning it's a cloudy start to the day. Right now about 5 degrees. A chance of snow (hopefully not rain) later today, so hopefully some decent news there tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately the hopes of a final sugoi end to March are faded with no March Madness lined up on the forecast for the rest of the month. This season spring definitely turned up early.
But, of course spring can still be fun and lots of snow on the mountains still even if it has quickly dried up around base village areas.
So for all those looking for some spring fun, let me bring news of cheaper lift tickets.
A one day lift ticket at Hakuba Cortina now costs 1500 yen for adults and 1000 yen for children until 7th April which sounds like a good deal to me. Here's other spring lift ticket deals available around the resorts:
Hakuba Goryu / 47 - 3800 yen for adults and 2000 yen for children; Hakuba Happo-one - 3600 yen for adults and 1500 yen for children; Tsugaiken Kogen - 3500 yen for adults and 2100 yen for children (from 1st April, 2500 yen for adults and 1500 yen for children. Hakuba Iwatake - adults 2500 yen, children 1100 yen.
Official snow depths and operations @ Monday 25th March 2013 AM:
Hakuba Goryu: No new snowfall reported by Hakuba Goryu. Official snow depths: Alps daira - 235cm; Toomi - 80cm; Iimori - 60cm
Hakuba 47: 0cm of new snowfall reported by Hakuba 47 since yesterday. Official snow depth: Upper - 160cm Lower - 70cm
In the report yesterday we mentioned rain/sleet/wet snow. Well, none of those apparently happened as we are all dry this morning.
It is a cloudy morning in Yuzawa. At the moment around +4 degrees in town and it isn't forecast to warm up so much today. Once again the forecast tells us a chance of rain/sleet/snow today but perhaps there's more chance of it happening this time. A nice new layer of snowfall would be very nice.
Today and tomorrow to remain fairly cold, with warmer conditions due to return from Wednesday.
The '3 mountain' joint ticket and connection for Yuzawa Kogen, Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama is now closed for the season. At resorts around town as well there are various spring ski discount lift tickets on offer, varying by resort so good to check with each one.
Official resort snow depths @ Monday 25th March 2013, AM:
A colder start to the day today in Shiga Kogen. Clouds are covering the mountains this morning so not much to see. The forecast is telling us to perhaps expect some snow later on and I can believe that, it feel like it might start anytime. Probably won't last long though and after tomorrow there's lots of fine clear and sunny weather ahead. If the forecast is to be believe though it won't be warming up too much which is of course good.
Nighta operations planned for tonight at the following resort area: Ichinose Family

It was sad yesterday to farewell the Kitanomine Zone for the season, but conditions were just magical for the final day with a whole mountain of fresh powder to play in.
From now it is just the Furano Zone open, but the snow is still great and there is plenty of terrain still available. It is a perfect day in terms of weather with nice blue skies. Temperatures overnight were cold but will quickly rise during the day. The best skiing will be morning as the snow will soften in the sun as the day progresses.
Kitanomine Zone closed for the season on 24 March. Furano Zone is operating. Furano Ropeway operations: 9am-4pm. Read more ...

After the lovely clear conditions yesterday, it's a much duller cloudy start to this Monday morning. About +3 degrees now in the village.
Considerably warmer conditions are probably once we get to around Wednesday this week.
