Weather conditions: Cloudy and misty

Merry Christmas! All I got was a box of mochi cakes, and someone else opened them :(. At least I will be able to enjoy good conditions up on the mountain today. Yesterday 6cm of snow was forecast in the morning, but it fell pretty much all day and into the night.

Down in the village it varied between rain, sleet and snow, but up top it was mostly the good stuff. The resort is reporting 10cm of new snow.

Hardly anyone up on the mountain yesterday, and we will probably have the great snow to ourselves again today.

There is no new snow forecast for the next 3 days.

The snow has really firmed up over the last couple of days and today looks like it wont be much different. There was no meassurable snowfall overnight and the low temperatures have not helped the snow quality. It would be a good idea to get your edges tuned and get out early. The Miharashi forrest area still has some nice cover but it is significantly firmer and has settled, so deep snow could be hard to find.

Weatherwise, it looks like a fairly strong high has moved over us and isn't going to budge until Thursday. We will be in for a few more days without snowfall, but the sun is shining and the winds are very light so all is not lost.

A great powder day yesterday, although the top quad at Kagura did not open. Reports of good snow conditions came in all day - agreeable really considering the satisfaction level of stomping a footprint in the snow yesterday morning was quite high - the slightly wet variety - excellent for carving in to - making your mark.

A white sky this morning with the the sun trying to poke it's head through the clouds. There's a slight breeze and its's -2 in the village at 900m. Snowfall yesterday finished sometime in the afternoon and so there was not a great deal extra since the last report, however the winds will have done a fair amount of snow transportation around the mountain - filling in all those nasty holes and crevices.

Weather conditions: Cloud

Good morning and Happy Christmas!

Yesterday the rain continued for a fair bit in the valley and unfortunately no snow to report down at town level.

It is a cloudy and overcast start to Christmas morning in Yuzawa, feeling fairly chilly but actually +2 at the moment, so actually another rather mild day on the cards. The forecast is for a fine day with it likely to clear up and the sun make an appearance and more of the same tomorrow and Friday as well. It looks like we might have to wait until at least the weekend to get the snow we're waiting for.

Until we get that deep snow down at lower levels, the best snow will still be found higher up at places like Kagura, Gala Yuzawa and Naeba.

Look out for the Santa on the slopes - if you catch him at one of the resorts you might get a present from him.... have a good day!   Read more ...

Good morning and Merry Christmas from Shiga Kogen.

Yesterday the snow continued for most of the day on and off and there were some fairly strong winds at times with poor visibility. Many people seemed to prefer an onsen than be on the slopes as it wasn't perhaps as busy as expected.

This morning things have calmed down and it is just cloudy at the moment with overcast grey skies. The snowfall of yesterday means that today the conditions out there should be good and the forecast is for clouds to move and and us have a fine day. The next few days look set to be fine weather as well, with the next snow currently lined up for just before the weekend.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: High cloud cover

It is a White Christmas in Hakuba.

High cloud cover this morning so there is good visibility up there today. There is no fresh snow to report but low temperatures so some fast groomers this morning.

Nice day for a Christmas ride...

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

Snowpack should have settled since the heavy snowfalls. Rain and warming yesterday would have caused some slides so watch for debris down below. Also watch loaded south facing aspects and large cornices. Some fresh snow yesterday so likely to be some sluffing up high. Exercise more caution if the temperatures warm up and as always don't go out without the necessary gear and friends who know what they're doing.

Merry Christmas to all.

It is a fabulous day in Furano today. It started snowing last night around 4 for a perfect white christmas. We woke this morning to 10+cm in the village, and more up on the mountian.

Snow through till about 10am, then a perfect blue sky appeared just long enough to get some perfect Furano valley photos across to Tokachidake, and then the snow had closed in again.

It is light, fluffy and soft. Lots of fun out there.

Santa was on the slopes this morning, with bags of lollies. There are a lot of young families with children in town for Chrsitmas and I dont think they could have asked for the weather to be any more perfect.

The forecast is for a clear day tomorrow, then followed by snow for the next week.

Christmas parties in town tonight.   Read more ...
