Some cloud, bright
One day later, and while aftershocks continue - JMA has recorded over 50 that can be felt - there hasn't been any further major shocks.
People around the village have been getting on with things and once again in a situation like this we see some of the fine benefits of close-knit communities.
As far as I can tell, as of last night the village was reporting there was 15 light injuries with 2 more serious injuries; most damage to property seems to have been concentrated in a few relatively small areas. That of course does not make it any better for the people whose homes have been damaged though. A number of roads will remain closed presumably until they can be repaired, and a landslide needs to be cleared from the train line in Otari.
I do not want to dwell on this subject too much, but once again our thoughts and best wishes to everyone that has been affected by this.
The ski resorts around Hakuba and Otari all seem to be reporting that there is no damage to facilities with plans to go ahead with opening as planned.
After some rain yesterday, this morning we are back to clearer conditions and the sun. There's some cloud around and a bit of a hazy look early on. Temperatures are likely to rise over 10 degrees again here in the town later on in the day.
Late tonight and into tomorrow it's rain again with colder temperatures... snow up at higher levels?
Planned opening dates :
Hakuba 47 - late November Hakuba Goryu - late November Happo-one - late November Tsugaike Kogen - late November Kashimayari Sports Village - early December Hakuba Sanosaka - mid December Hakuba Norikura Onsen - mid December Hakuba Cortina - Saturday 13th December Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field - Friday 19th December Read more ...

Nice and sunny, just some cloud
3rd day of the season and a national holiday - so should be busy out there again today.
After a day of some rain and cloudy conditions in the region, this morning the sun is out once again. Not quite as clear as it was on Saturday (at the moment anyway) but still should be a nice sunny day and down below in town we are expecting temperatures of around 12 degrees again this afternoon.
It's change again tomorrow though as it will be colder and rain for perhaps a few days. The upper slopes of Kagura might be on for some snow, so fingers crossed there.
As you can see on the photo below, they have started churning out the 'snow' at the base of Naeba as well, though still a few weeks before they plan to open. Hoepfully by then we might have a cover of the real stuff on the ground.
Resorts currently open:
Kagura - 1500m run at the main Kagura area, access via Mitsumata Ropeway.
Planned opening dates for resorts in Yuzawa Town:
Saturday 6th December: Kagura Tashiro Iwappara
Saturday 13th December: Naeba
Friday 19th December: Yuzawa Nakazato Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Park
Nothing exciting to report this morning as we continue our wait on the weather.
Back to dreary skies this morning with the mountain shrouded in cloud. Might be snowing up there... rain low down here.
From tomorrow for a few days it's generally sunny conditions lined up. Forecasts can of course and do change though, so let's hope this one does!
If the forecast doesn't change though, opening at the weekend is surely going to be difficult.
Planned opening dates for the different resort areas on the mountain:
Niseko Grand Hirafu - looking to 29th November for opening Niseko Annupuri Kokusai - will open as soon as there's enough snow Niseko Village - Monday 1st December Niseko Hanazono - Saturday 6th December Read more ...
