Niseko Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 8:32am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow yesterday morning unfortunately didn't last very long with mostly clear and sunny skies for the remainder of the day. Later in the evening we had a little wet snow/sleet and then a brief period of heavy wet snow before turning back to more sleet. This morning is mostly cloudy and little precipitation can be expected throughout today. Snow is still predicted over the weekend with fairly cold temps later on Saturday through Sunday. The best snow and skiing will be found up high and hopefully with the weekend snowfalls we will have typical powder conditions return.   Read more ...

No snow yesterday but overnight we got about 1cm in town and its still snowing lightly. This morning is a bit warmer than it has been recently; -4 at the base of the mountain at 8am. It is very overcast and the mountains are hidden in cloud so, hopefully, it is snowing up there.

It is still looking good for snow on Saturday and Sunday The temperature should drop again on Sunday.    Read more ...

Minakami Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 8:45am
Weather conditions: overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Gray stratus clouds cover the sky this morning with the temparature sitting around a mild 4 deg C. It looks promising for precipatation later in the day and the forecast is indicating snow later in the evening, so finger crossed.

As predicted many of the low lying ski fields are postponing opening until further notice. Okutone, Oana & White Valley have postponed opening, Norn say it will open but even if it does the quality of snow is likely to be poor, Minakami Kogen is also scheduled to open but will have limited runs operating.

Houdaigi and Tenjin are both currently operating, Houdaigi only has one lift operating, Tenjin has 3 lifts operating and the best snow of all of Minakami's fields.   Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 9:24am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light rain (light snow at Kagura)
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well the weekend is nearly with us (as is Christmas), but there is no jolly news to bring you this morning.

It was raining earlier on in the town and though it has stopped now, we have rain forecast for later this afternoon and this evening again. It's fairly chilly but certainly not what you would call wintery cold - about 3 degrees at the moment and looking set to rise to around +6 during the day.

Kagura are this morning reporting light snow up there and there is a chance of some more snow high up overnight - fingers crossed!

There is one new opening to report this morning - the top part of Yuzawa Kogen will be open for the first time this season with the top pair lift and "cosmos pair lift" operating.

Tomorrow looks like it will be cloudy with a chance of sun, and cloud/rain is forecast for Sunday.

So what are the options for the weekend?

Kagura - the best and most snow in the region with all the resort open;
Naeba - some bottom and top courses open;
Gala - some courses open;
Yuzawa Kogen - top part open.

In terms of area and snow, Kagura is surely the most popular choice at the moment. If you are coming this weekend, expect it to be very busy...   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 9:53am
Weather conditions: Heavy clouds, some sun breaking through at the top.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A cloudy day today in Nozawa. Temperatures are more comfortable than previous days with the village now at 0C and the mountain around -1C. The forecast is for light snow to begin later today and to persist through to Saturday night with the winds to reach 25km/h.
No snow since yesterday although the weather definitely looks threatening.

As before the upper reaches of the resort only are open. Today is the last day for discounted lift tickets. The runs that are open once again had quite a bit of traffic yesterday but there is still some good skiing and boarding to be had at the top.

Naeba Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 11:59am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Melt. That's the word that is coming to mind this morning. A warm start to the day at 3 degrees at village level. All very worrying really, until you look at the forecast - things are on the up or should I say down (temperature!)

The peak of Naeba is shrouded in cloud, however since the pictures were taken, it is clear from the top of Gondola #2.

The Naeba staff are out on the gelande tuning up the Snow ploughs, a good clue to indicate that the snow really is coming.. watch the forecast for the weekend!

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 22nd December 2006, 12:17pm
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a cloudy start to the day with some very light snow falling at times early on - but that has cleared up from what I can see here in the central area of Shiga Kogen. The temperature outside right now is just at 0 degrees and will probably be hovering around that for the rest of the day, and get colder overnight. It seems that we do have a chance of more snow falling over the weekend so we stay patient.. and wait.. and hope :)

Resort operations for now remain unchanged.   Read more ...
