Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 26th May 2019

Cloud is covering the upper half of the mountain and this should help keep the suns rays off the snow, thereby keeping the snow conditions firmer for longer into the morning. The cloudy conditions are forecast to remain for much of the day. The next three days do not look so promising with some light rain on the forecast - who knows though we could be lucky and get some late season snow. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 22nd April 2011, 9:47am
It is a cloudy kind of morning this morning in Nozawa. After a quite chilly start to the morning it will end up being a mild day and a high of around 12 degrees forecast for the village.
OK so we are approaching the weekend and as you can see below from tomorrow there are some changes coming... good changes. Today the Higake Gondola, No2 pair lift and Parasise quad will be operating. From tomorrow, the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira plan to re-open for the first time in quite a while (take a look back at the archived reports from mid-March). It's going to be great to be able to get back up there. Lots of snow too up there. Unfortunately there's a good chance that it will be raining tomorrow - even up there at Yamabiko - but fingers crossed for that small chance of it being snow up there!

Shiga Kogen Now!
Friday 22nd April 2011, 9:49am
As I write this, Route 292 is being prepared for it's opening this morning at 10am. It was supposed to open on Wednesday but the snow prevented that. It's all go this morning though and in just a few minutes you will be able to drive between Shiga Kogen and Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma. This makes Shiga Kogen easily accessible for a whole lot of people on the Gunma side of the mountain of course.
It's a cloudy morning here, though quite bright and I wouldn't be surprised to see the sun make an appearance. Later on though we have rain/snow lined up. Snow please. All going to depend on the temperature, and right now it is quite mild.
Tomorrow is the weekend of course and so some more lifts opening up. Details on lift operations below. Cloud with a chance of snow lined up for tomorrow.

It's about 5 degrees in the village this morning, no wind and just cloudy conditions.
Yesterday was much colder and we actually got an impressive 20cm of fresh snow on the slopes... a nice new blanket that we will be able to enjoy from tomorrow.
Yes, tomorrow is the day when the resort opens up again and this time more lifts and courses. See below for details on what is going to be open. The resort plans to run through until the end of Golden Week (8th May?) from tomorrow.
A sort of cloudy start to the day in Yuzawa but it is bright and some light blue up there as well. It actually feels like it could clear up and end up being a fine, sunny day but the forecast has other ideas and that is cloudy all day followed by rain overnight into tomorrow. The town area and lower slopes of Mitsumata will very probably be having rainy conditions tomorrow, but we can hope for some snowfall on the upper slopes again.
It's 12 degrees in Yuzawa at the moment and it will just rise a bit more from there this afternoon.
The usual extra lifts at Kagura and the Kandatsu Kogen resort in town will be open for the coming weekend.
A cool and cloudy day up north with rain forecast for later in the day which should fall as snow on the upper mountain at first as a warm front approaches the island. In the wake of the front things will warm up a little and rain should fall at all levels through tomorrow.
The snow cover is still top to bottom but some patches are opening up on the lowest slopes. Up high though in Hirafu there is still over 3m on the ground so there's still plenty of snow to see out the remainder of the season.
Out on the plains around the mountain there is still a thin cover of snow on most of the fields above 150m. Where farmers have put in a fair bit of effort some fields are mostly clear of snow now. All areas around the coast and below 150m are now mostly free of snow.
Current Official Snow Depths:
Grand Hirafu: Top - 315 Bottom - 90
Niseko Village: No longer reporting snow depth
Annupuri: Top - 260 Bottom - 70
This season's Niseko Avalanche Information is finished
Things are starting out fairly nice today, although a big ring around the sun is saying that the forecast for rain in the afternoon is probably on the mark. Rain tomorrow, but things look good for Sunday. It is warm, though.
The snowpack is holding up remarkably well; should be very good for Golden Week in Myoko!
