Yuzawa Now!

Thursday 21st April 2011, 9:02am
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The skies have cleared up today after a mainly wet one down in town and we have some blue skies to enjoy. Right now it is 9 degrees in Yuzawa with a high of around 13 degrees expected this afternoon.

A good day to enjoy that fresh snow up at Kagura, I'd say.

Looks like we can expect more rain tomorrow into Saturday but hopefully that might translate into snow on the open upper slopes of Kagura.

- Mitsumata No1 Quad
- Mitsumata No2 Pair
- Kagura Gondola
- Kagura No1 Quad

Weather conditions: Fine clear blue skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No more new snow to report this morning, just some lovely clear blue skies all around. Early clouds have disappeared and it looks like it should be a fine one until tonight. It's 8 degrees at the moment.

Tomorrow later on it looks like we are going to see rain in the village which will go into Saturday. There's a chance of that being snow higher up on Saturday, but it's going to be borderline. So fingers crossed there.

Official snow depths and operations @ Thursday 21st April AM:

Hakuba Goryu:
The upper slopes at Goryu plan to be open until 8th May.
The Gondola and Alps No3 pair lifts are operating.

All of the lower lifts are now closed for the season - you need to take the Gondola down to the base at the end of the day. Course areas open are: Kurobishi, Usagidaira and Panorama.
The Grad quad will also be open on weekends and during Golden week, at those times opening up that top course as well.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Thursday 21st April 2011, 9:13am
Weather conditions: Clear, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
So we did get some snow on the upper slopes and the official numbers for Yamabiko have risen to 275cm up there. I would guess there was actually more snowfall than 10cm, so conditions will be good up there. Just wish we could ride them today, but we will have to wait slightly longer.

Today the sun is out and we have lots of fine clear skies. A fairly cold night and start to the day but it will probably warm up and reach double digit temperatures this afternoon.

There's more ground on show on the lower slopes of the resort close to village. It has lasted longer than usual of course and I would imagine the local farmers are going to actually be wanting it to melt up quickly so they can get to work on their crops!

Planned lifts operating until 22nd April:
-Higake Gondola
-Higake No2 pair lift (B)
-Paradise quad

-Utopia A
-Utopia B

Furano Now!

Thursday 21st April 2011, 9:16am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The forecast today is for rain. So far this morning there has been some very very light snow fall, nothing that will accumulate on the slopes though. Overnight temperatures have been cold so the slopes will ski firm and resonably fast this morning. It is high overcast at the moment and looks like it will stay this way throughout the day.

Minakami Now!

Thursday 21st April 2011, 9:49am
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a run of warm weather, winter returned for a short blast from Tuesday evening and Tenjindaira happily received 20cm or so of fresh snow up until yesterday evening. Not bad for 20th April!

With clearer skies today, conditions up on the mountain should be nice. Doesn't look like the clear will last long though with rain due late tomorrow and Saturday - probably even up at the resort area as temperatures stay quite warm.

Tanigawa Tenjindaira:
The resort is now open and plans to be open until 8th May.
The downhill course is now closed for the season.

Marunuma Kogen:
Part open with No5, No3 and No1 lifts operating.
The resort plans to be open until early May.

Two lifts are operating at Kawaba. The resort will be open for one more weekend -Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April.

White World Oze Iwakura, Norn Minakami, Houdaigi, Okutone and Minakami Kogen 200 are now all closed for the season.

If you plan to visit a resort, we suggest you contact them directly to find out the latest information as openings are subject to change.   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Thursday 21st April 2011, 12:29pm
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a nice day in Myoko today; I didn't bother to report yesterday, because you wouldn't have wanted to be out there (mostly rain, mixed with a little snow, and that nasty wet cold feeling), but today would be a great day for a slide. The dog and I got out for a nice slide through the woods (while there's still enough snow just below the base of the lifts)—just us and the wily fox who also seems to enjoy running fast along the early-morning, firm snow.

Today's the day, though, s it looks like things will get gray and wet again until maybe Sunday....
