What a contrast today is to the recent gloomy weather. We have brilliant blue sky sitting over the resort with only a couple of clouds showing. The clear sky and sun is forecast to stay with us throughout the day. There is no wind and there has been 3cm of snow overnight that has settled across the village covering all the roads. Another partly cloudy day on the mountain yesterday with cooler temps reaching tops of 3C, but with some light to moderate gusts of wind here and there it was chilly at times.
Today, mostly sunny to clear into the afternoon and tops of 2C. Some snow showers should make their way across to us in the evening, but nothing much expected.
Thursday is looking like a bit of a messy one, at the bottom we’ll see about 40mm of rain (heavy, most of the day), while at the top the snow should be falling moderately, with about 20cm if we’re lucky!
Wednesday: mostly sunny with evening rain/snow, winds increasing & tops of 1C Thursday: heavy rain/mod snow at the top, moderate winds & tops of 3C Friday: light snow easing, moderate winds & tops of 3C
And there is some fresh snow to report. No cm down at base here but 3cm being reported by the resort on the top Yamabiko and Uenotaira course areas.
Lots of cloud around this morning and generally limited visibility - especially around base and lower areas of the mountain. We are forecast mostly cloudy conditions today and there is a chance of more snow (or rain) over the next few days with temperatures keeping fairly cold.
Pretty much all of Nozawa remains open.

Fresh snowfall since yesterday (as reported by the resort):
No new cm of snow since yesterday and it is a fine start to the morning with a mix of cloud and blue skies and sunshine.
After some strong winds yesterday, things seem somewhat calmer this morning so the lifts should be opening as scheduled.
Over the next few days it looks like we are more likely to have more sunshine and cloud than any kind of precipitation and it will be getting a little warmer as we approach the weekend. Hopefully not too warm.
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Niseko base 5.00am: -5°, 3cm new snow. Moiwa 800m: -8.8°, NW7.4m/s, major snowdrift development. Annupuri elevation 1000m: snowpack 440cm. Hirafu peak: -10°, trace new snow to valley. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NNE11m/s. Kamui Cape: N8m/s, 1021hPa, wave 2.1m.
Cold air is entering the region, above the 800m tree line there is cornice and snowdrift development on leeward slopes. There is possibility of surface avalanches fracturing on 18 Mar layer, about 30cm depth, on upper steep areas of knoll and cornice slopes. The wind is starting to drop and snowdrifts are stabilising, although take care in the morning. A slope that was good yesterday might not be good today.
The risk of full depth avalanches is still high. To avoid an accident please change your habit of riding in the valley bottoms. The mountain is obviously heading into spring now with repeated freeze thaw cycles. Powder isn’t Niseko's only attraction, corn snow season is coming. Today expect dust on crust, be careful hitting trees. Have a good day.

Resort specific information (operations subject to change):
A slight dusting of snow to be seen this morning with some light wet snow falling in places (and sleet/rain in others) but generally cloudy conditions forecast for the day today and a high of around 4 degrees - so it's not warming up too much. There's more borderline snow/rain on the forecast for tomorrow too.

Ski resorts in Yuzawa:
Checked and updated every morning. Note that some ski resorts may not have updated their own info at the time this report is published.
It's great to see a bit of fresh snowfall here in Shiga Kogen this morning. A bit wet as it's relatively mild, but snow all the same. And there may be a bit more snow for us to get before we arrive at the weekend. Fingers crossed everyone.
It is snowing right now.
'Planned closing dates' information for resorts in Shiga Kogen. Basically:
- all ski areas in Shiga Kogen plan to be at least part open until the end of March; - a bunch of resorts will be open on specific dates (usually weekends and Golden Week) once we get into April; - the remaining resorts will be open daily until 6th May and beyond that (they will close when there's not enough snow left to ski or board!)
Once we get to the end of March, I will add specific lift operation plans for the ski resorts that remain open during the months of April and May.
Planned closing date information for the ski areas around Shiga Kogen. Note that all are subject to change.
Details of ski lift operations during the months of April and May will be posted by the end of March Read more ...

We are in some thick fog this morning. There's even a bit of fresh snow sprinkled around the area.
Tomorrow a little warmer and possibly rain again, but I'm always hopeful for some fresh snow. After that, another dip in temperature and then clearer sunny weather currently forecast for over the weekend.
It's all rather changeable at the moment.
13 days to go.

Good morning from Naeba! It's a snowy start here, with light snow falling at the base of the mountain. Sadly, it is insufficient to accumilate, but we can hold out hope for the top of the mountain. From about 1300m, the mountain is shrouded in a thick fog, so visibility up at the top will be limited. The air temperature is far cooler than it has been, as the wind has swung around to the north again bringing in this cold air. We can expect the light snow to continue throughout today. The pistes will likely be quite hard this morning, but with the fresh snow on top they should soften up as the day goes on.
Looking forwards, the wind is predicted to swing back to the south and strengthen tomorrow first thing, increasing the air temperature to just about freezing at the base. Snow is predicted for tomorrow, but this precipitation will turn to rain on Wednesday at 900m elevation. Air temperatures are currently predicted to push up comfortably above freezing also. Fortunately, this preciptation is predicted to fall as snow at higher elevations. As the weekend arrives, we can expect clear skies again, with some more sunny spring skiing on the cards. The rain has turned to light snow; the national news is still reporting that it could really snow tomorrow. Looks like the Kanko area (including Tokyo) might get snow as well, which means white flakes falling during cherry blossom viewing in the capital city. It has been a unique season on the weather front.
I’m a bit confused by Lotte Arai’s reporting; they noted some of their avalanche-controlled areas “Course closed” instead of “Temporarily closed” yesterday, but they’re back to temporary only. When in doubt, check their website before going! And good job, Seki Onsen, for finally revising your snow depth (-50cm overnight, even with the snow falling! Yes, I am being snarky...)
Lotte Arai Resort: 409cm, 0°; Exciter and Discovery permanently closed; Mamushigaeshi and Rindou Lower closed; Funaishi-zawa, Happy Place and Benzaku-zawa in the avalanche-controlled areas open; others closed (see website for updates); closing May 6
The day is starting with a mix of rain, sleet and snow in base areas - and snow falling on the mountain. By the time this report is going up, Happo-one is reporting 5-8cm of fresh snow and it seems Hakuba Goryu is also reporting 8cm. So it sounds like there's a fresh layer higher up on the mountain, even if I don't have any cm to report from base.
Poor visibility from early on this morning too.
Still should be interesting to see what we see falling here over the next few days...
