Myoko Now!

Weather conditions: Sunny
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A sunny Saturday today with temps expected to finally rise for the weekend only. Monday and Tuesday is when the big freeze comes, bringing openings across the board. Stay tuned to this report for openings and temp changes. Togakushi is the only resort that opened today as, despite the lack of snow this week, the temps there stay quite low.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 20th December 2008, 8:34am
Weather conditions: Bluebird
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another bluebird day with amazing views of the alps. A crisp night last night but not to cold this morning with -2 at the top of Goryu and around -1 in the valley now. Forecast for blue skies most of the weekend clouding over tomorrow afternoon.

Tons of cars around Happo as Japanese skiers and boarders have begun for the season meaning lifts and runs will be a little congested as the mountains are still running with pretty limited operation.

Weather conditions: Sun, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another fine, sunny morning with bright blue skies all around. A coldish night but it will probably warm up to around 12 degrees early this afternoon. Today was supposed to be the opening day for a number of resorts but obviously that isn't going to happen.

Naeba is starting up the night skiing from tonight.

More fine weather forecast for tomorrow and then, hopefully - surely - the snow on Monday!   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Saturday 20th December 2008, 8:56am
Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yet again, it's a sunny fine morning. There are way too many of them for my liking (and surely most other people) this early in the season when we are in real need of snowfall.

Despite the lack of new snow, more lifts are doing their best to open this weekeend and almost all of the larger ski resort areas of Shiga Kogen are now at least part open. While the whole resort area is still far from being connected up in terms of skiable area, there is actually a fair amount of runs to choose from.

The Yokoteyama and Kumanoyu area is probably offering the widest area open right now, with all but one course open at Yokoteyama and most of Kumanoyu skiable too.

More fine weather tomorrow before that promised snowfall early in the week. Fingers crossed.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Saturday 20th December 2008, 9:40am
Weather conditions: Blue, Blue skies.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
We had a lovely day of sun yesterday and things look set for the same again today. Blue skies and white mountains is what the heavens are made of this morning. Down in the village there is thick ice on the ground in places - a good sign of the ground temperature dropping which should help this weeks coming snow stay put on the lower elevations.

Also we have a steady stream of cars flowing into the village from the southern pass today, all of which are being greeted by sub zero temperatures and people gunning down the slopes on what will be some of the first runs of the season for many.

Roll on Mondays snow!!

Furano Now!

Saturday 20th December 2008, 9:59am
Weather conditions: High cloud cover. Warm with rain forecast later today.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
This morning, it was snowing quite nicely, then it suddenly and completely stopped. Total snow on the car-topometer was 6 cm.

Unfortunately, the weather report is 100% completely miserable. High temps of 7 C today, the dreaded "R" word is also in the forecast (rain).

Cloud cover is very high right now, and the visibility is excellent. It hasn't started raining yet, so the morning will better than the afternoon.

These are the kinds of days you just have to close your eyes and get through it. Tomorrow, at least , it's cooler, but no snow forecast. Then starting Monday, snow is forecast every day for the rest of the week. I'll wait for Monday.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Saturday 20th December 2008, 10:12am
Weather conditions: cloudy with drizzle
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The warm front has moved through the region overnight with some heavy precipitation which fortunately mostly fell as snow with some good accumulations, especially up high. It's been reasonably wet snow though, certainly not the light, dry powder we're used to. Currently it has mostly turned back to rain/sleet at village level. The cold front will move through later today and we'll see the temps drop below freezing again with further snowfalls on the way.
