Weather conditions: Snow

Winter has officially arrived, just on time for the real start of the season. It hasn't stopped snowing for one second since yesterday afternoon and as a result we got up to 80cm of new snow overnight.
As the temperatures are quite low this means the first nice powder of this season. In the upper area winds are quite strong, so wrap up well. The winds might cause the Gondola lifts to stop.
Slope report to follow later in the day or tomorrow morning.
Ticket prices are back to normal. A one day pass is 4300 for adults and 2100 for children.   Read more ...

Yesterday's snow failed to appear, and air temperatures remained mild all day. For a while the top half of the mountain was bathed in sunlight, whilst lower lifts and the village lay in a soupy fog. With darkness everything froze, and mountain conditions returned to ice. (The roads were also treacherous.)

Overnight 10cm+ of new powder has fallen, and a cold and gusty North-Westerly wind is blowing this morning. Visibility is limited with so much snow being blown around, but good pockets of powder have collected in sheltered areas. Rock caution is still required.   Read more ...

Big smiles all around as we wake up to the first really winter-like day.....and lots of snow! Depending on where you're looking - up to 60cm or so...!

Kagura are reporting a snow depth of 120cm, Tashiro 100cm, Naeba 110cm, GALA reporting 100cm, Kandatsu Kogen 65cm, Iwappara 50cm and more (see above)..... and so more lifts opening either today or planning to open very soon. (Best to check with the resorts for the latest updates.)

It looks like it will continue snowing today and hopefully tomorrow as well, surely by the end of the weekend almost all of the resorts will be open.

Enjoy!   Read more ...

Nonstop snow here with another 20cm overnight, making 80cm (??) at village level in the past two days or so. We're having the first proper cold spell of the winter, so the snow quality is very high.

Pretty much everywhere is going to be open, but there is a chance of high winds stopping the lifts later on.

Work commitments (boo!! hiss!!) are keeping your correspondent from the hills but suffice to say it's going to be superb.   Read more ...

How a week or so changes things. We're up to our necks in the stuff now. Some resorts in the region reporting 120+ cm of snow on the ground now. Strong winds today, with some lifts being closed not because of a lack of snow - but too windy. Not the best day to be out there with the conditions that we have, but not many people are complaining as the season as really started now. As soon as the winds die down, expect pretty much all of the lifts and resorts to be open.   Read more ...
