Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 26th May 2019
Friday 20th April 2012, 8:47am
Yesterday it did rise above 14 in the end... a warm 16C was recorded in Yuzawa mid afternoon. The roads around where I live have been wet - not with rain falling, but with the snow melting and as things are seemingly getting a bit warmer we can expect that to quicken up in the next week or so.
It is supposed to be a cloudy day today, but it has started off bright and while there is a lot of cloud up there I can see a few patches of blue as well.
Still looking like tomorrow will be a sunny and very warm day, followed by the chance of some rain late Sunday and perhaps Monday.
Look to around Wednesday of next week for temperatures to rise into the 20's.

The cloud moved on by late morning yesterday making way for another clear and blue sky day over Hakuba.
This morning the clouds are back and this time blocking off the sky - it's a grey start to the day and perhaps won't get quite as warm this afternoon if conditions continue like this. Right now it is about 9C in village.
So what's the latest news for the weekend? Well, looks like it is going to warm up again helped on by a good dose of sun tomorrow. For Sunday it might cloud over more and there is a chance of rain, so tomorrow would seem to be the pick for the weekend.
As we get into next week things look set to really warm up and we might see temperatures hitting the lower 20's early to mid week.

Clear, blue skies
It's a lovely spring morning in Niseko. The sun is out, blue skies and no clouds to be seen. A warm start as well, and today and we might see the mercury rise to over 10C and pushed a little higher even tomorrow, which should also be clear and sunny. So all is calm in Niseko - including the slopes, though we can expect to see some more people turn up tomorrow for some weekend sliding.
Sunday we might see stronger winds and rain later on in the day as well as a slight dip in temperature before things warm up again for early next week.
The Hirafu Gondola will once again be called into action for the weekend.
Current lift operations (20th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola will operate on 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
Welcome to my Friday update and I bring some Naeba news.
Naeba have decided to open for Golden Week. Their original 'extended season' was last weekend and this coming weekend, but they have decided to go on and open for the Golden Week holidays as well - daily from 28th April until 6th May. The plan is for just the No2 Gondola and the Takenokodaira pair lift operating which may not sound like a lot but there will be top (well, the top of the Takenokodaira lift) to base skiing possible. With all the usual 'depends on conditions' notes just in case nature decides to melt the snow away faster.
Anyway, how about conditions today? It's cloudy and warm, but tomorrow should be sunny - and warmer. Looks like finally much warmer temperatures are on their way
We will update this Naeba Now report before each weekend right through until the season at Kagura, and in the meantime we will be keeping the Yuzawa Now! reports going on a daily basis right through until the last ski lift stops moving.
Resort Operations, 20th April (subject to change) Naeba: Naeba re-opens on April 21st/22nd and then for Golden Week (April 28th - May 6th) Kagura: Open as normal. Official snow depths Naeba: 180cm Kagura: 360cm Read more ...

An end to the fine weather today with grey clouds over Minakami, and threatening ones at that. There was some light rain early this morning but it has stopped now though the forecast says it might start again this afternoon. It certainly looks that way.
Cloud forecast tomorrow though there is a chance the sun will be out. Sunday and Monday are looking like rain but fine weather is due from Tuesday, and if the forecast is to be believed it could get really warm mid-week which might bring the cherry blossoms out in this area. Read more ...

Well, no sun this morning - well not at the moment anyway as cloud is hiding the top of the mountain from view but decent visibility on most slopes of the resport. It remains mild and is about 6 degrees in the village. Hardly any wind.
Weather for the weekend? It looks like tomorrow should be generally fine with hopefully more sun than today but there's a chance of rain on Sunday. After that, all signs point to things warming up a fair bit next week.
A few more lifts plan to be operating for the weekend, as noted below.
The next Zao Now report here will be posted on Monday - in the meantime, have a fun weekend!

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 20th April 2012, 10:16am
The clouds are back this morning over Nozawa. Right now it is about 10 degrees and a high of 11-12C on the forecast for the day.
Taking a look ahead for the weekend.... tomorrow looks very likely to be warm and sunny with clear skies forecast. Sunday there is a chance of rain falling and altogether more cloudy, colder too, and so if I were to choose one of the weekend days it would be tomorrow.
After that, it's going to really warm up next week. You'll probably start hearing 'atsui desu ne?' come Wednesday as we might see the temperature rise up over 20 degrees. (Atsui desu ne!)
