Naeba Now!

Friday 1st May 2009, 9:03am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Blue skies all round this morning with warm temperatures forecast.

Due to the melting snow at Mitsumata, the courses there are getting quite narrow and from today they are being used only as a connecting course to the Kagura area. You still use the Mitsumtata Ropeway to get up there and then the quad lift to get to the top and ski/board down to the Kagura Gondola.

Apart from just cloud on Monday, the forecast for all of the Golden Week holidays in the area is generally fine and sunny weather.

Naeba open until 6th May
Kagura (via Tashiro Ropeway) open until 6th May
Kagura (via Mitsumata Ropeway) open until 24th May

PLEASE NOTE:
We will continue to make updates to this Naeba Now! page at least a few times a week, but from now on until the end of the season at Kagura the daily reporting from the Yuzawa area of Niigata will move over to the Yuzawa Now! report section, so remember to check out that page as well for the latest.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Friday 1st May 2009, 12:11pm
Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Beautiful weather for Golden Week alright with blue skies today and tomorrow though cloud is coming in from Sunday to Tuesday apparently. It seems there's still snow with plenty of cars parked in the carparks. Mountain-bikes are becoming the preferred mode of transport for many!

Still, Hakuba in Golden Week has a bit of everything with snow on the tops, the lakes with blossoms in bloom and the rivers pumping. Have a good one wherever you spend it!

Official resort snow depths on 1st May 09:
Happo-one:
90cm (Kurobishi/Usagidaira)
Hakuba Goryu:
100cm (Alps daira)
Hakuba 47:
20cm
Tsugaike Kogen:
130cm (Tsuganomori)

Planned closing dates:
Hakuba 47 - until 6th May
Happo - until 6th May

Furano Now!

Friday 1st May 2009, 18:29pm
Weather conditions: Clear.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
"Glorious" doesn't do justice to the clear skies we have had the past few days. It's still possible to ski all the way to the bottom, but things are finally starting to get dicey down low. Due to poor conditions, the runs leading up to the New Prince Hotel have finally been closed, with only the ropeway connection run available at the bottom of the slopes. The upper ropeway runs are offering good conditions, as is Panorama with a full meter of snow base.

The ski hill has announced a special program for Golden Week, the Japanese "spring vacation" where 5 national holidays line up. The Gondola will be available at a "one coin" price of just 500 yen per ride. You can choose to ride down or just hang at the top, have a beer, and get some awesome photos of the valley.

The New Prince Hotel Park Golf course is also open, and the Ningle Terrace Craft park is coming to life.
