Snow and weather reports posted on Saturday 2nd November 2019
Monday 1st December 2014, 7:34am
There's a thick bank of cloud covering all but the lower slopes of the skijo around the village this morning and light rain falling for now.
It was warm overnight and struggling to get down to single digit temperatures.
BUT! Over the next 24 hours that seems all set to change considerably.
From tomorrow it's all cold and snow and things are looking promising. I think we might get to see some action pretty soon. Fingers crossed!
Just to go back to the earthquake last week and an update on that situation. There have only a few very small aftershocks the over the handful of days, so it seems to have calmed down hopefully for good. There's still a few small areas without water supply but electricity seems to be almost back to normal everywhere. As I mentioned in a previous report, the main 33 road connecting Hakuba with Nagano city is open.
As far as visitors are concerned, it will be pretty much open as normal and the resorts and hotels will be looking forward to welcoming people.
Planned opening dates :
Hakuba 47 - as soon as there's enough snow Hakuba Goryu - as soon as there's enough snow Happo-one - as soon as there's enough snow Tsugaike Kogen - as soon as there's enough snow Kashimayari Sports Village - early December Hakuba Sanosaka - mid December Hakuba Norikura Onsen - mid December Hakuba Cortina - Saturday 13th December Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field - Friday 19th December Read more ...

Mostly cloudy for the moment
Some gusts of wind blowing around at times, with stronger winds forecast for the day today. It has started off cloudy and mostly cloudy but some blue sky over northern areas and into Minamiuonuma. Those strong winds are due later on though as well as rain, very possibly heavy at times.
I'm just looking at a number of forecasts and one of them is telling us to expect a high temperature of +18 degrees today! It's certainly mild feeling this morning and was overnight as well - I didn't have the heater on last night. Kagura are reporting +6 degrees.
But, good news, it's going to quickly cool down and tomorrow will be much colder. Might we get some snow down to town tomorrow? Tanoshi-mi!
Snow is forecast through into the weekend in the mountains with sometimes snow hopefully also down here in town. If the forecasts are correct, we'll be looking at a different situation come next week!
Resorts currently open:
Kagura: A 600m run at the main Kagura area is open, access via Mitsumata Ropeway. A shuttle bus takes people from the top of the Ropeway to the base of the Kagura Gondola, which then takes them up to the base of the main Kagura area. The Kagura Number 1 Romance pair lift is operating to service the open course.
Planned opening dates for resorts in Yuzawa Town:
Saturday 6th December: Kagura Tashiro Iwappara
Saturday 13th December: Naeba
Friday 19th December: Yuzawa Nakazato Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Park
The 'safety prayer festival' (as google translates it!) was held at the top station of the Nagasaka Gondola on Saturday, with the officials of the resort praying for safety this winter season. Hopefully it will be so.
All ready and waiting for snow now.
Check out the webcam images posted below. As you can see the snow has disappeared from the Uenotaira course area and there's only traces left now from the top Yamabiko area of the resort.
As we all know, and I think I have said before, it can all change very quickly. And hopefully that change is coming very soon.
Once we get today out of the way - which is starting off almost warm, to be followed by rain - the upcoming forecast from tomorrow is looking pretty good actually. Snow lined up daily through until at least the weekend, especially on the upper areas of the mountain.
While the freezing point is today over 3000m, come tomorrow night it might be right down to 500m.
Bring it on, as they say. And so do I!

Quick report this morning.... not raining yet, just cloudy but still forecast for the day along with strong winds and then hopefully turning into snow tomorrow morning.
Temperatures set to take a dip overnight and we're hoping to snap into winter mode and back to minus numbers from tomorrow.
I hope to post my report tomorrow before lunchtime.
