The "akibare" (sunny Autumn) days continue in Minakami and the "koyo" (changing of the leaves) is now in full swing. The colours are currently at their best around 600m which is at the river valley at the main town level in Minakami. The upper mountains are already past their peak in terms of colours.
There was snow at the top of Mt. Tanigawa last week but it soon disappeared with the warmth of the day. The temperatures do continue to drop so I expect to see more white capped mountains in the near future.
Tenjindaira is planning to open at the start of December (snow dependent) with most of the other areas aiming for mid December. Another warm Winter has been predicted by the Japan Met. Office. This means that a lot of the lower lying ski areas will be particularly effected. In Minakami this will mean that Norn, Oana, and Okutone may struggle.
