More snow fell in the upper mountains last nights with temperatures falling to -3 at the valley level. The forecast for today is low temperatures and cloud with snow falling to the valley level from this evening.

There is no more snow forecast for the remainder of the week at the valley level but the upper mountains and ski areas are likely to receive a few more light falls.

Tenjindaira is still scheduled to open December 6th, with Houdaigi aiming for December 13th. If the snow permits they may both open earlier. Stay tuned!

After getting all excited last night, this morning is a bit of a disappointment. The sun was shining through the curtains earlier on and there's even some blue sky around. Right now there is a fair bit of cloud hanging on but at the same time the sun is out.... a fine but chilly morning.

So what about the snow? Well, it did fall higher up on the mountains. To give you an idea, the top of Gala, the top of Yuzawa Kogen, the mountains behind Kandatsu are white frosted this morning. Kagura will have got more snow of course, but I doubt it was that much. A start anyway and snow is forecast for later on today and overnight so lets hope more comes.

Currently it is about 3 degrees at town level.

Yesterday, the webcam looking out at Yuzawa Station East Exit was turned on and will not be updated every 10 minutes - you can find it in the Webcam Center section of the site.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Weather conditions: Cloudy with snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A massive complex low pressure system has developed over the Sea of Ohkotsk which is dragging down plenty of cold air and snow along the entire western seaboard of Japan. Even the mountains in Kyushu have received some snow!

Here in Niseko the sleet forecast yesterday actually fell as heavy, wet snow and then overnight the temp dropped below freezing and much lighter, drier snow has been falling. This morning there are a few cm's accumulated in the village and it's currently snowing. Snow will continue right through the weekend and tomorrow should see heavy snow with near blizzard conditions as the winds increase.

Winter is definitely here so make sure your skis and boards are waxed and ready to go!   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy, cold tonight.

STILL Waiting...

The forecast said snow every day this week, but all we've had the last two days is some light dustings. That's not the way it's supposed to work!

Bottom third of the mountian bare, but the top is still holding on to white.

It's going to be very cold tonight, down to -7 C, with more snow forecast, so maybe, just maybe we can get things rolling here.

No word yet on Opening Day, but it will have to be some mighty good snow in the next couple of days in order to open by Saturday.

Keep your fingers crossed, and THINK SNOW!

Weather conditions: Fine, cloud
New snowfall: --

Not quite the news we wanted to bring this morning. While there is snow higher up on the mountain and Kagura got a coating, the snow has not managed to come down to town level here in Naeba. It's a chilly morning but until now has been actually quite fine with the sun making an appearance. It seems to be clouding over a bit again though and we do have snow forecast for tonight.   Read more ...

Japanese weather reporters don’t lie... when it rains it pours and the first snow in the valley last night was a dump with 30 plus centimetres in Misorano, 50-60 cm at the base of Happo and who knows how much at the top. Hakuba represent!

Warming is expected from Friday with rain forecast next week.   Read more ...

Better news this morning. Snow has arrived again on the top of the mountain. Just a sprinkling mind, not much to talk about as of yet but Uenodaira and Yamabiko are definitely white this morning with 5cm apparently up at Yamabiko. Cold up there too with -5 degrees reported earlier this morning.

Down in the village things are still chilly but fine at the time of writing. Clouds are moving in and it should be snowing - hopefully down to village level - later on in the day and overnight. We'll let you know tomorrow....!   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Weather conditions: snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The slopes were primed nicely in this first snow of the '08-'09 season, giving a full coat all the way down to the resort base level. Tonight looks like a bigger snowfall than this morning, with temps dropping well below zero early on. Much of it is expected to melt as the cold front eases away on Friday, though. A nice preview of what's to come.   Read more ...
