Appi Kogen Now!

Cloudy skies with snow showers at times
Thank goodness yesterday is over. It was rather unpleasant to say the least. Gale force winds over a very icy mountain made things just unpleasant. Only 3 lifts operating too.
Today is looking good so far. Cloudy skies, winds that are not making it blow sideways and a rather chilly -6 outside my door. Light showers are expected all day and for the next few days but Monday is going to be quite windy again so be prepared if you’re here for a while.
The snow that fell last night will be sitting on a decent layer of ice so please be careful.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Planned operating lifts at time of report (subject to change due to weather conditions):
Appi Gondola Central quad Central number 2 Central number 3a Central number 5 Central number 6 Sailer Gondola Sailer quad Vista quad Nishimori - suspended early on due to wind conditions
There's a decent 16cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning here at base; with most of that coming overnight.
What's more, there's not much wind this morning and all areas should be open.
Snow forecast for the next few days, on-and-off at times and heavier at times, so fingers crossed the cm will keep on piling up. More and more please, come on let's keep it going.
I think it's time to ski and check out this fresh snow...
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Mountain base: -10°, 25cm new snow. Moiwa 800m: -12°, W10m/s, 30cm new snow, 60cm snowdrift development. Annupuri 1150m, -15°, W12m/s, 40cm new snow. Hirafu 1250m, -16°, W10m/s, 30cm new snow. Coastal data: Kamui Cape:NW8m/s, 1010hPa, wave 2.1m.
Wind is starting to drop and under 1000m elevation 30-40cm has fallen. The snowdrifts are continuing to stabilize however cornices are still fracturing easily. From snowfall transition and observation, Back Bowl around 1200m, Osawa cornice face 1100m and East Ridge cornice slope there is the possibility of large scale surface slab avalanche from the 17 Feb layer. Snowdrifts are still stabilizing- avoid riding open steep slopes and cornice slopes.
The snow is good in the forests. Do not wait in valley bottoms, this is an avalanche path and you may be caught in one. All peak gates are expected to open but at delayed time. Do not duck ropes to get out of bounds. Mountain condition is fantastic, have a good day.
Resort specific opening news at time of writing (subject to change during the day):
Night skiing is planned until Monday 20th March 2017 at the Niseko Annupuri, Niseko Grand Hirafu and Niseko Village resort areas. There is no nighta in the Hanazono area. Read more ...

Blue sky, some cloud around upper resort areas, sun
Good morning from Hakuba.
Lots of cloud around yesterday with light snow falling in places (and at times), but some clearings in the clouds as well at times. I have heard from a few people who went to various areas and indeed got some very varying reports and opinions on conditions. I think everyone would agree though that a nice new fresh thick layer of snow would go down a treat. (Doesn't it always!)
This morning there's a few cm of snow on the ground which is curious because some of the resorts are saying 0cm. Oh well, I can see it sitting there looking all lovely and white. Still, would have been nicer to have had more, but we are going to have to wait for that.
This morning there is lots of blue sky around with a bank of cloud around the upper areas of the ski resorts for the moment. Sun/cloud appears to be on the forecast
There's a bit of a wind up top and at the time of writing I can confirm that top areas of Happo-one, Goryu and 47 are on hold. Hopefully they'll get going fairly quickly if and when conditions improve.
The forecast is looking good for snow in the coming week. Starting overnight tonight?
Have a great Sunday.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Sunday 19th February 2017, 8:42am
Good morning from Nozawa.
Fresh snow and 15-20cm of it being reported by the report base to top; I'm measuring 14cm. So a nice new fresh blanket covering the mountain to play in and lots of people around early on eager to get up there and mess it all up!
It looks like snow is continuing to fall higher up but down here at base level there's breaks in the cloud and the sun is trying to appear. The snow clouds are expected to retreat and leave us with cloud or perhaps even clear up as the day goes on.
Tomorrow will likely be a bit warmer than today and snow is due again. Though during the daytime at lower levels and in the village there seems to be a decent chance of rain (before it turns into snow). Noooo----, don't do it!
For now though, it should be a good morning out there.
Courses not open today are: - Kandahar East - Kandahar West - Grand Prix Read more ...

Cloudy but bright and looks like it might be clearing up
Hello from Madarao.
9cm of fresh snowfall overnight measured just before by myself, and at the moment it is cloudy but rather bright and I can actually see some blue sky over in some directions now - perhaps it is going to clear up today and we'll get some sunshine.
It should be back to snow again tomorrow though during the day some rather mild conditions are forecast so we'll have to keep an eye on that. Keep cold please!
It should be a good Sunday morning, and I hope to see a few of you out there.
Operating status for the day at Madarao Kogen (at time of report):
- Number 1 lift - Number 2 quad lift - Number 3A lift - Super quad lift - Number 11 lift - Number 12 lift - Number 13 lift - Number 15 lift - Moving walkway - Kids Park - Free Ride Park - Snow Mobile Land
- Powder Wave I - Powder Wave II - River Line - Powder Theater - Adventure Aisle - Crystal Bowl - Ninja - Sawa - Rabbit - Kamoshika - Bear
- Nighta at Madarao Kogen is every Saturday until 25th March (and also on 19th March)
Cloudy, bit of sun trying to break through at the moment
And a good morning to you from Yuzawa.
Yesterday it was trying to snow for lots of the time but it didn't really amount to much at all, and zero in terms of cm down in town.
This morning it is good to wake up to some fresh snow. And just over 20cm of it at our measuring points as well.
Fresh snow numbers from resorts are as follows:
Kagura: 20-25cm Maiko Snow Resort: 15cm
(The very simple reason why we keep on mentioning the 'new snowfall' numbers from those two resorts is because they actually publish those numbers each morning - most resorts don't seem to. If there are some other official numbers that we are somehow missing every day, please do let us know and we'll be more than happy to report them!)
Anyway back to the weather. It was snowing just before but has eased off for now and it looks like the sun is trying to break through the clouds. Changeable conditions just at the moment, though snow to just cloudy is what the local forecast have for the day.
Tomorrow? Well it does look like it's going to get mild again and while snow is due later in the day, there's a good chance that we might get a bit of rain again... particularly at lower areas, higher areas might get straight into snow. Let's see.
Today should be a nice improvement on yesterday though in terms of snow conditions, should be fun!

Cloud breaking up, more and more blue skies
Another 9cm of snowfall to add to the reports this morning but as the morning progresses the clouds have been breaking up and there is now lots of blue sky above us. Turning into a lovely morning.
Enjoy it while you can because - guess what - snow is due to be falling once again by later on tonight and some decent snowfall through tomorrow.
Actually the forecast through the coming week is looking rather snowy as a whole so the regular top-ups are going to continue.
On that note, I can strap my skis on and enjoy the conditions this morning.
Official snow depths numbers reported by different areas of Shiga Kogen:

Some fresh snow and cold temps overnight but winds kicked up this morning and Tenjin was closed today. The weather was pretty full on earlier but the sun poked through a little later and its clear and cold this evening.
