Your mid-week status report, on a beautiful day in Myoko. Still lots of snow - and I'm heading off into the backcountry from early tomorrow morning, so today's the day for reporting!
You can still ski all the way down to base at Akakan -- something that we almost never see at this time of year. And while those walls along the roads have come down, they are still about two meters tall. No cherry blossoms in the immediate forecast.
Possible light rain tomorrow, a nice Saturday, and then some possible showers again and strong winds on Sunday.
Akakan: Sky Cable Gondola and No 3 lift, through to May Seki Onsen: Open through May Ikenotaira: Will open from April 28 to May 6
Yesterday was a very fine spring day in Hakuba with clear blue skies for most of the day and a beautiful evening. Some cloud moved in last night and this morning there's a fair bit of cloud hanging around up there but more blue sky. Another warm spring day in Minakami. There are clouds about but the forecast at the moment just has us down for cloud/sun. Nice temperatures, no wind and soft spring snow up at Tenjin.
Could be rain tomorrow, Sunday & Monday but it looks like we could be in for some sun on the other days. Read more ...

Good morning - there's not a whole lot to report really this morning. It is a generally cloudy start to the day here. The three lifts at Grand Hirafu and four lifts at Annupuri are open as planned and everything is calm... not much of a wind at all and mild, spring-like temperatures. There's a band of cloud cutting off the top part of Yotei.
I have really noticed the snow starting to get less in the areas around the village in this last week or so especially. That's only to be expected of course, and I think the farmers in the region are all rather keen for it to melt away from the fields quickly now so that they can get on with what they have to do. There's still a way to go for that though.
Current lift operations (19th April 2012):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola will operate on 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Grand Hirafu and Annupuri both plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono and Niseko Village areas are now closed. Niseko Village plans to re-open for the Golden Week holiday period from Sunday 29th April until Sunday 6th May.
It is a nice and sunny morning in Yuzawa. Already about 10C according to the thermometer outside, though it shouldn't rise much about 14C this afternoon. There's just a slight breeze in town, a bit more blowy up at the top of Kagura, but generally a good, calm day for some spring sliding. It looks like tomorrow will be more cloudy with a slight chance of rain and then on Saturday clearer weather and warm -- we might see a high of 20C.
Naeba news - they have extended the season again and now plan to open 28th April until 6th May, as well as this coming weekend. More on that on the Naeba Now page tomorrow.
Over at Kagura, here's a run down of what lifts are moving weekdays at the moment:

Clear and sunny
More sun this morning and clearer skies... it's a beautiful spring morning in Nozawa and not much else to report other than once I post this report I will be out there destination Yamabiko! There's hardly anyone around to enjoy it as well - where are you?! We have seen the last of the powder days, but there's still a ton of fun to be had and lots of snow too.... Yamabiko still reading over 3m of the stuff.
We will probably see a high temp. of about 11 degrees today in the village. Currently the forecast for tomorrow is just cloud and a similar temp. After that sun again for Saturday along with perhaps the warmest day of the year so far.
Current Official Snow Depths Numbers:
* Readings by the resort from lower slopes now seem to have finished - though there's still generally plenty.
Current Lift operations (scheduled): Nagasaka Gondola Yamabiko Four Yamabiko Four No2 Skyline Link
Main courses open (scheduled): Yamabiko A Yamabiko C Yamabiko D Yamabiko E Skyline (upper half) - go to base via Kamoshika and Karasawa Uenotaira Paradise Schneider Utopia courses Yunomine A, B Challenge Bunabayashi Rinkan
Things have brightened up the last few days and this morning is also a mild, warm and sunny one. Blue skies up there and a real spring feel to the air. A feelgood one. It's always sad when winter is over, but spring also has it's appeal - as do all the seasons in Shiga Kogen for that matter.
Looks like tomorrow will be more cloudy followed by clearer skies once again on Saturday when once again a few more lifts plan to be open for the weekend.
Just a reminder that the road connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma is still closed and will be until the 26th April. They have been hard at work moving snow up there the last few weeks in preparation for a planned re-opening of the road on 26th April. When it opens you will be able to get to Shiga Kogen via Gunma. More on that a bit nearer the time.

The weather is high overcast today but there is good clear visibility and little in the way of breeze. As spring gets a hold, the first signs of the ground breaking through in Kitanomine are visible which is about a month later than we would normally see this occur. Snow around the village is rapidly disappearing by the day, but there is still plenty left on the Furano Zone which has amazing conditions. Read more ...

The sun is out this morning over Zao. Sometimes hidden by some clouds which are casting some giant shadows on the slopes of the resort as they move on this morning but lots of blue sky and sun as well. Not much wind either so another good spring day here. Look for more of the same over the next few days. In particular, it should be quite warm on Saturday.
