We had a mostly cloudy and cool weekend. Yesterday saw a brief period of precipitation which fell as snow on the mountain and as sleet down on the plains. Today dawned foggy but it is clearing up now to what should be a very nice bluebird, spring day. There's still plenty of snow on the slopes with no patches as yet on the pistes. Looks like we'll have no problem with good top to bottom cover to last us out to the end of the season. Youtei is especially spectacular this morning and appears little affected by spring thus far with even the exposed ridges still very much covered in snow.
Yesterday was a warm one and this morning has started off mild as well. It's an overcasty kind of cloudy early on this morning but fairly bright. It is currently 10 degrees in Yuawa and a little earlier on Kagura was reporting +6 degrees.
The forecast for the day is actually sun, so perhaps it will clear up further as the day moves on - and more of the same forecast for tomorrow with a high of around 17 degrees possible.
Official resort snow depths @ 19th April 10, AM: Kagura: 310cm Kagura - Tashiro: 250cm GALA Yuzawa: 150cm
Planned closing dates at resorts in Yuzawa:
Wednesday 5th May 2010: Gala Yuzawa Kagura (Tashiro Area)
Early morning did not look so promising with cloud blocking the sun, and it didn't look like the sun would win the fight to come through. But then suddenly bang, the cloud dissapeared and we are left with blue sky and sunshine.
Furano Ropeway and Furano Downhill Romance 3 chairlift are open, allowing for good skiing from top to bottom. Spies, Panorama and Technical courses are open.
Conditions are very spring like with early morning providing firm conditions and things progressively softening by mid morning. If you are thinking of today or tomorrow, don't toss the coin, get out there today and make the most of it as it looks like rain clouds will visit tomorrow afternoon.
The fine weather has eventually arrived in Zao after that period of winter-like weather. It isn't full on sun, but generally bright skies with an overcast cloud thing going on! Right now it is 3 degrees in the village.
From today the Chuo Ropeway will once again be closed for mainatenance, back open from the 22nd. So only a limited part of the resort remains open now - but still a fair bit of snow left on the runs open up top.
Fine, warm weather is forecast for tomorrow.
