I thought I would bring you some good news this morning and that is that the slopes have a nice white covering this morning. After the very slight dusting of snowfall we saw on Friday morning, it's wet snow falling down in town this morning but on the mountain some nice big flakes of snow have been falling. While there's not a huge amount as yet, the forecast for the day is snow along with strong winds. Over the next few days into the middle of the week we can expect some more snowy conditions down to town as well, so hopefully come the middle of the week there will be some tasty news to share.
Fingers crossed that lifts might be able to open up on planned dates. Grand Hirafu and Annupuri resort areas plan to open on Friday 23rd December.
Better things to report today. About 10cm or so fallen this morning up on the upper slopes of Kagura giving us another overall white look to proceedings, and more falling still being helped on by the snow making machines as well. The forecast for the week ahead isn't clear, and really not a huge amount of snow lined up. That can change though and we'll just have to see how things progress.
The snow is here at last! What started off as a steady, light rain this morning transitioned over to all snow by noon down in the town. The mountain has been getting a healthy dose of the fluffy stuff since last night, and we are all hoping for some significant accumulation once this storm finally subsides. A few hours ago, the snow pack had worked it's way down to the last quarter of the mountain. With temperatures being much colder in Kitanomine than they are down here in the village, things are looking up for some significant snow fall totals for this weekend.
It's currently a chilly 1 C above freezing in the rest of Furano, which means that we aren't seeing snow piling up on anything but the tops of cars and the roofs of houses, but it's still a welcome sight this deep into November. Things have tapered off a bit for now, but this snow machine should continue to churn its way throughout the evening and into tomorrow morning. Temperatures will drop below freezing overnight with a forecast low of -3. Please take care out on the roads, especially if you haven't changed over to winter tires, as there should be plenty of ice bands forming now that the sun has gone down.
According to the weather report, we're looking at winter winter almost every day for the next week, so it's safe to say that the ski resort should be opening sometime soon! Read more ...
