Niseko Now!

Weather conditions: Snowing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Last night a storm moved through the region with very strong winds and heavy snow. Walking to Seicomart became an epic undertaking with blowing snow forming deep drifts and obscuring any vision. The snow will continue through today and tomorrow but currently lift operation is restricted due to the winds. Snowdepths have barely increased as the wind has packed down the powder. Might be a good day curl up in front of the fire and finish off that book you've been reading.    Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Weather conditions: Snowing and overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Just incredible!! They're saying anywhere from 30~50 cm at the top of the resorts, depending on the resort, but I could swear I shoveled 60 cm off my car this morning! There were strong and gusty winds up on top through the night however, so please watch out for snow drifts as well as wind exposed ridges where the snow has been blown off. We had our coldest temps so far this season last night and this morning, hitting the -11 deg. mark. It should be a little warmer now, but still cold enough to wear an extra layer of clothing. Get out there early to get it before the winds pick up again. Be aware too, that the Happo and Goryu Gandolas are closed now due to bad weather and too much snow up top. They should be opening after they get the snow groomed though, so keep checking.

RESORT REPORT:

San Alpina Sanosaka: OPEN, 3 lifts, 8:30 ~ 16:00. Lift price (Adult) Early season ticket 2,500 yen, regular season prices start on the 23rd, 3,500 yen.

Yuzawa Now!

Sunday 18th December 2005, 9:38am
Weather conditions: Heavy snow, windy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow was really coming down last night and at the same time we had some very strong winds blowing things around. While we have probably seen about 30cm of new snow up until early this morning, many of the resorts don't seem to be reporting that addition to their snow depths - possibly because of the winds blowing it all around. Anyhow, it is still coming down heavily as this is being written.

Today because of the strong winds operation at Kagura is limited (it seems only parts of Mitsumata and Tashiro are open).

---

Update:

The heavy snow continues - and with it traffic problems. The Kanetsu Expressway is currently closed from Nagaoka into Gunma (with more than a few accidents also reported on expressways and Route 17). Dangerous conditions on the roads so extra care needed.

The noon news is also reporting up to 100cm more snow to fall in the region in the next 24 hours!    Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Weather conditions: Snow and strong winds
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
We've got some snow to report this morning! Probably around 30cm of new snow on my car this morning and it is still coming down. There's also some fairly strong winds at times which will no doubt affect some lift operations today. The other thing to report is the temperature - it must be the coldest day of the season because it really is very cold this morning. Yokoteyama is reporting temperatures of -16 degrees! So you need to be wrapped up really well today if you plan on braving the weather.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Sunday 18th December 2005, 12:33pm
Weather conditions: Overcast Low Clouds. Persistant snowfall everywhere today, smaller flakes blowing about in the gusty breezes that come and go. Cold.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Persistent snowfall everywhere today, lots of small flakes blowing about in the gusty breezes that come and go. Overcast low clouds constantly sprinkling the good stuff about. A very cold day today but a great chance to carve it up without too many others to share the spoils with. Plenty of fresh tracks and powder stashes to find at the various slopes.   Read more ...
