Clear and sunny
The sun has been out this weekend, melting away the snow that we had during the week from town areas. It has got quite warm again as well, and today we are probably looking at a high of around 14 degrees.
There's still quite a bit of snow up top though and I would imagine that a Friday 23rd opening at Kagura is quite safe. More on that later in the week.
Here are the planned resort opening dates for all of the skijo in Yuzawa:
November 23rd: Kagura (Mitsumata)
December 7th: Kagura (Tashiro) Naeba Iwappara
December 14th: Yuzawa Nakazato Yuzawa Kogen Nakazato Snow Wood
December 20th: Yuzawa Park
December 21st: GALA Yuzawa Ipponsugi Yuzawa Kogen (Nunoba area)
You might notice that the Kandatsu Kogen resort is missing from that list. The reason for that is that it is not yet confirmed if Kandatsu Kogen will be opening this coming season. A chance in ownership and other issues means that there is still some uncertainty - though we do hear that by the end of the coming week we will know whether we'll have Kandatsu open this season or not. It would be pretty big news for Yuzawa if Kandatsu didn't open, so fingers crossed for some positive news there.
I will bring you the planned opening dates of resorts in neighbouring Minamiuonuma in the next few days. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Sunday 17th November 2013, 11:14am
Good morning from Nozawa. Last time I posted we were in the middle of a cold winter snap and our first snow of the season.
This weekend the weather has been somewhat different - warmer, sunnier and again this morning it's blue skies all around and a beautiful day in Nozawa. We are forecast to have a high temp. of about 10-11 degrees C in village this afternoon.
The snow in the village has mostly melted away but there's still a near cover down by the base of the Gondola.
There still looks to be a nice amount of snow up top though, so hopefully that can stick around until we get another delivery.
It should get a bit colder in the coming week with rain probably lower and the chance of that snow at higher elevations.
There is no new snowfall to report this weekend, rather nice fine weather with blue skies, the sun out and temperatures rising.
It is about 8 degrees at the moment as I write this report. It is forecast to remain quite mild over the next few days and we will probably get rained on tomorrow and Tuesday - perhaps some snowfall at higher elevations.
Still some snow around base but increasingly patchy now as the sun does it's thing, and no snow left around my place this afternoon.
There's a decent base up there on the mountain though and so I wouldn't imagine Friday being any problem for the planned opening of the first ski lifts of the season. A nice freshen up would be great before Friday.
The planned resort opening dates are as follows:
Niseko Grand Hirafu - 23rd November Hanazono - 23rd November Niseko Annupuri - 23rd November Niseko Village - 1st December Read more ...
