Well, this morning Kagura is boasting 15-20cm of fresh snow up there.... impressive!
Visibility looks pretty poor up there early on but the forecast is for things to clear up as the day progresses - and a day of sun tomorrow. Gala has also seen some fresh snow, so conditions for the weekend couldn't be much better.
The snow didn't reach town level with rain falling before but looking like it will quickly clear up ths morning.
Official resort snow depths @ 17th April 10, AM: Kagura: 320cm Kagura - Tashiro: 270cm GALA Yuzawa: 160cm
Planned closing dates at resorts in Yuzawa:
Wednesday 5th May 2010: Gala Yuzawa Kagura (Tashiro Area)
The snow clearers are out on the road today. It started snowing yesterday evening and there is now 10cms down in the valley with Tenjin reporting 30cms.
It's not as could as it has been the last few days and the sun is just starting to make its way out so it should get a little warmer. For the moment though everything is blanketed in white. Oana Ski Resort, which was just grass yesterday is completely covered again now and there are big piles on the edge of the road that the ploughs have cleared off. A few problems on the roads and trains but should be back to normal shortly.
The snow is a little heavy but not bad for mid-April. No complaints here.
I must admit I wasn't quite expcting this! The resort this morning is reporting 25cm of fresh snow in the top Yamabiko area. It has even been snowing down to village level and all of those huge patches of earth that were on show have been covered up - probably just for a very short time, but it is good to see lots of white again.
So we couldn't ask fo much more - good timing for the weekend and the people turning up this morning should be in for a fun time up there.
The Uenodaira and Paradise quads are operating for the weekend.
Warm weather and sun is forecast for tomorrow.

30cm! That's how much fresh snow has fallen since my last report.... it is hard to believe that we are now in the second part of April. The snow clouds have somewhat thinned out up but visibility isn't the best at the moment.
Things will soon be clearing up though, with fine weather lined up for tomorrow with things really warming up from Monday.
Fresh snow.... have fun!

'Possibly snow', I said yesteday. That's what the local forecast told me.
Well, they we a bit off there... this morning there is a healthy new blanket of snow covering Kagura. 15-20cm of it up top, according to the official report. It is just generally cloudy at the moment with poor visibility on the slopes, but I'm sure people won't be complaining too much!
All of the Kagura area is open today.
Look for good clear sunny weather tomorrow and warmer conditions into next week.
We will post Naeba Now weather update reports a few times a week until the end of the season at Kagura. The Yuzawa Now report will continue to be updated on a mostly daily basis - including any information on Kagura as well - so please keep an eye on that report as well for the most up-to-date information.
Official Snow Depths:

It's another beautiful Spring Saturday here in Furano. The latter half of last week left us with around 15cm of fresh snowfall, and even though today's high temperature is topping out at 10 degrees, there's still plenty of fairly fresh snow on the mountain, especially for this, the middle of April. If you feel like you need to get in a few more runs before the season ends in just a few short weeks, then today is definitely a good day to enjoy some warm-weather spring skiing. You won't need a heavy coat, but I would advise wearing a light jacket, as the breeze is slightly on the stiff side at 4 m/s, evidence of another front passing through Central Hokkaido that should bring us some precipitation come nightfall that will start out as rain and then taper off to a wintry mix towards midnight.
It should get down to around -2 again tonight, so please be careful of slick spots on the road if you are traveling anywhere early Sunday morning, like to the Furano side of the ski resort, perhaps? Read more ...

This morning we were treated to new snow - down to village level as well, with perhaps 20cm or so fresh up top. After a cloudy start to the day, it soon started to clear up and blue skies on show. The snow had melted from the village areas by around lunchtime, and it was faily clear with the sun out by then.
All in all though a very fine day to be out there.
