So the end of another winter in Minakami. Tenjin toughed it out through the rain and warm temperatures to finish mid-May, so it was another long season for them.
It didn't look too promising from the start. The long range forecast seemed to be indicating a very average winter with normal snowfall and temperature on the cards. It turned out to be a fantastic winter for snow though, with the snowfall almost reaching the record breaking levels of six year ago.
The snow started falling towards the end of December and didn't seem to stop until the end of the season with regular top ups throughout the winter. There were some huge dumps as well with some back to back 50+ cm snowfalls that had the locals shovelling snow off their houses from dusk till dawn. The snow was consistent throughout and we even had powder days in April. Check out the archives here any time to re-live the season.
Things are still sorting themselves out from the events of last March so hopefully next winter will see everything totally back to normal. With a bit of luck the news of the great snow from this year will travel and Japan will once again be at the top of everyone's list for 2012/13.
We'll be back with reports in the run up to next season. Have a good summer. Read more ...
