Niseko Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 8:08am
Weather conditions: overcast, snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Temperatures have dropped now and are below the freezing mark and looking to stay that way for a few days. The good snowfalls over the past few days are now covering many new areas around the entire mountain. The Annupuri and Higashiyama resorts are offering up perfect conditions with only small numbers of people out there to enjoy it.

The double headed low of 984hp is slowly moving north east and there is an average sized high pushing along behind it and should dominate the next few days.

Last night was a great night out on the hill with night skiing now a regular part of the Niseko routine and of course catching so much new snow another routine to get used to in this part of the world.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 8:14am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well the forecast came through and Nozawa was dumped on last night! 40cm of new snow fell at the top of the mountain.

This figure is possibly a conservative measure as about 30cm has fallen even in the village. That much snow was a very nice surprise this morning, as it was only snowing lightly at 11pm last night. It is still snowing heavily now. As you can see on the webcam visibility is poor on the Yamabiko slopes with strong winds too. These conditions and the trudge up to the Nagasaka gondola station through a foot of snow is likely to turn away a few punters today.

Another great day up the mountain yesterday with more fresh powder. Being the weekend it was slightly busier but time spent waiting for lifts was still very minimal.

The forecast is for continued snow, easing tonight but coming back on Monday evening. This is a great run of powder to get the season going up in Nozawa and next week will be huge when hopefully they are able to open up the rest of the mountain.

Hakuba Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 9:21am
Weather conditions: Cloudy Snowing through the day
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The skies opened up yesterday and continued through the night leaving 30 cm of fresh snow on cars in the valley.

Goryu is reporting 30 cm fresh at the base and 60 cm up top so no shortage of powder.

They are also preparing the Sky 4 lift on the lower slopes and look set to start running that this afternoon.

There will be no shortage of powder on the runs today get out there and enjoy it. Snow is currently forecast through until Wednesday.

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

Huge amounts of snow last night, reports ranging from Happo 60 cms on top to Tsugaike 170 cms! Poor visibility and extreme snow conditions have pushed the Danger Scale up to Extreme in the Alpine and above the tree-line and avalanches are likely below the tree-line also. With the powder on the ski-fields staying out of the back-country and on-piste is highly recommended.

Above tree line: Extreme

Tree line: Extreme / High

Yuzawa Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 9:50am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It sounded optimistic, and it was. We don't have the snow we might have been hoping for, rather about 10cm or so in Yuzawa, 20cm at Kagura and Naeba reporting 30cm of new snowfall. It should be really good conditions up there, with snow probably for the day though with some fairly strong winds forecast as well.

Snow is forecast for the day in the area, but right now at town level we just have very light snow and it ia actually quite bright.

It is around 0 degrees at the moment with some stronger winds (that may affect lift operations) forecast for later this afternoon.

Kandatsu has this morning opened part of the resort (with 2 lifts moving and 5 courses open) and other resorts on standby are currently checking things out to see if they might be able to open...   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 10:01am
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Naeba reporting 30cm of fresh snow this morning and with snow falling now and more forecast for the rest of the day we can expect more of the resort to hopefully soon open.

Kagura has been on the receiving end of fresh snow as well, and conditions up there should be good today, but low visibility. Look out for fairly strong winds at times as well.

A mix of fine weather and snow is currently lined up for tomorrow.   Read more ...

After a clear night, big falls from the early hours onwards right down into Minakami thats eased back to a cold morning with constant snow being whipped up by occasional wind gusts.

Cold air is continuing to push over the mountains keeping things cold and bringing the freeze point down low.

It is expected to keep falling until late this afternoon with no thaw, then another cold night.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Sunday 16th December 2007, 10:08am
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It feels like winter this morning.

The temperature is down to around -10 degrees at Yokoteyama and generally around -6 to -8 in most parts of the region. Winds are strong and affecting some lift operations at Okushiga and Yokoteyama.

There was about 15cm of snow on top of the car this morning, and it is still coming down - harder at times - but it is looking like we can expect more snow over the next few days.

More of the Shiga Kogen is gradually opening and will continue to as this snowfall continues.   Read more ...

Pure powder and a clear day this morning with snow presently coming on the scene once again. The valleys and village received quite a bit of snow last night, and the snow plows are purring. Every day is scheduled to have similar weather so far.

The Nagano side of Myoko (Suginohara/Kurohime) got very little snow but no melting and/or hardening.    Read more ...

Weather conditions: cloudy up top, sunshine down below
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A beautiful day today, fresh snow fell late last night so was untouched by groomers. Warm temperatures over the last few days have helped the snowpack settle and now the fresh snow is a delight.

Kumaotoshi is open from 10am till 230pm.

Ski racers are out training today, so the right side of Zaira course is closed.

Snow is forecast every day for the next week.

International staff have made their way to Furano for the winter season which means guests are only a short time away. The ski resort is in excellent condition so come up and enjoy.
