An icy morning on the roads and very cold - but gradually it is getting brighter and right now the sun is out. Clouds are moving in though and snow is expected to be falling later on.

There was no new snowfall overnight.

At the resorts that are open, expect more runs and lifts to start operating from tomorrow.

We'll give you an update later on in the day to give you the latest before the weekend.

It has been a fine day here in Yuzawa with some empty and very tempting looking slopes. This weekend is bound to be busier.

While we can expect more resorts to open in the region tomorrow - see earlier report - we have been told by a few places not to expect them to be fully open even with the mid-season snow depths they have.... Iwappara is planning to open up a bit more for the weekend but the top area won't yet be open. Kandatsu is also only part open.

The top tip for the weekend is surely Kagura which will be fully open - including the Tashiro part and connecting runs within Kagura. Please note however that the Dragondola that connects Naeba with Kagura will only start operating on December 23rd, so there's another week to wait for that. Much more of Naeba is now also beginning to open up and apart from the very top part and some steeper runs, a large part should be open from tomorrow.

The forecast has us down for 'cloud changing to snow' for tomorrow. Then after that we have the coldest front of the season ready to hit Japan tomorrow evening and Sunday. They are currently saying that it could be bringing up to another metre of new snowfall to the Japan Sea area, so we'll just have to see where that lands! One thing is sure - be ready for snow to be falling on Sunday!

If you're coming to Yuzawa (or indeed wherever you are going), we hope you have a good one!    Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Friday 16th December 2005, 9:06am
Weather conditions: Snowing and overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Was a clear cold night, but that didn't last long. It started snowing again early this morning and we've had about 20 cm on the top of Happo and about 5 cm in the Valley. The visibility is surprisingly good considering it's snowing, about 200 meters. Get out there and get some before the weekend crowds arrive!   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 16th December 2005, 9:16am
Weather conditions: Sun, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No new snow to report overnight and it looks like it is shaping up to be another fine day in the region. A cold morning but it should warm up a bit during the day. Still get wrapped up and remember the sunscreen though.

If you have been reading the reports from other regions you will notice that they seem to have got large dumps of snow, but we haven't been as lucky as yet. While we do have snow and good conditions, the snow depth levels are still relatively low compared to some regions.    Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Friday 16th December 2005, 9:19am
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
More of the same today - there are more clouds around perhaps this morning but it should be a fairly fine day out there and a good time to be out on the slopes - tomorrow is sure to be busier.

Snow conditions are of course still very good.

Some new pics have been added to the Nozawa Now gallery.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Friday 16th December 2005, 17:01pm
Weather conditions: Clearing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The goods news is that the snow continued all through yesterday, overnight and much of today. Late today it has cleared up and with a forecast minimum of -14 in Kutchan tonight I suspect it will stay reasonably clear. The snow is forecast to return later tomorrow and heavy falls are expected on Sunday. Conditions on the mountain couldn't be better with deep powder everywhere and if you're lucky enough to be getting here soon there's still very few people about.
