Snow and weather reports posted on Friday 24th May 2019
Saturday 16th April 2011, 9:43am
It's a really very mild/warm morning here and already 12 degrees at 9am. Kagura were reporting 9 degrees at 6am up there, which is a bit of a shocker. But actually it looks like temperatures should actually drop during the day so this is probably the high for the day. The sun is out again but rain looks likely this afternoon into the evening along with some winds.
Good clear conditions again tomorrow.
If the forecast is to be believed we might actually be seeing some considerable snowfall up top Monday night into Tuesday. That's on higher elevations and will likely be heavy rain lower down in town.
So, Kagura and part of Kandatsu Kogen open for the weekend.... have fun.
The downhill course from the bottom of the Mitsumata slopes to the Mitsumata car park is also open.
At Kandatsu one pair lift and the two quads are operating. Read more ...
Shiga Kogen Now!
Saturday 16th April 2011, 9:53am
After another sunny day yesterday, it's.... another sunny day today! But not quite as bright and blue sky sunny as it has been with a more subdued feel this morning. Perhaps becuase rain clouds are on their way into the region. Going to be borderline rain/snow a bit later on by the looks. And though it has started off around 10 degrees here, it should cool down as the day moves on.
The clouds should clear up by tomorrow though with clear skies lined up for tomorrow morning.
The forecast for late Monday into Tuesday is looking almost winter-like with temps going back down into the negative and possibly moderate-heavy snowfall. Hard to imagine after the warmth of the last few days, but will be most welcome if it comes off.
In other news, the part of Route 292 connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma that is blocked off by snow in winter will be re-opening on Wednesday April 20th at 10am. So after that you can get to Shiga Kogen via that road from the Gunma side.
Resort areas that are [at least part] open this weekend (16th-17th April):
Okushiga Kogen: No2 and No3 high speed lifts open until 8th May. No4 pair lift open between 23rd April and 8th May. Gondola open 16th-18th and April 23rd until 8th May. Please note - Okushiga Kogen is a skiers-only area.
Kumanoyu: No 1 pair lift will be open until 8th May. No 2 pair lift will be open until 8th May and then may continue to be open depending on snow conditions at that time. They hope to be able to open until 15th May. No 3 quad lift will be open from 29th April until 8th May. No 4 pair lift – no specific opening times available. Please note - Kumanoyu is a skiers-only area.
Yokoteyama – Shibutoge: The resort plans to be open until the end of May. Yokoteyama No 1 Sky lift open until 8th May. Yokoteyama No 2, No 3 Sky lifts and the Shibutoge pair lift will all be open until conditions permit. Yokoteyama No 4, No 5 and No 6 lifts will be open at unspecified times until 8th May. Please note - snowboarding is not allowed on all courses at Yokoteyama - allowed on No1, No2 and No4 courses and the Shibutoge area. Currently, No4 course is closed).
Ichinose Family: Quad lift open until 5th May. No2 pair lift (B) open on April 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 29th April until 5th May.

Sun, clear skies
More sun this morning as the Mitsumata car park fills up with crowds for the weekend. Quite a few people ready for that first Ropeway up there earlier on to get the first tracks of the day.
It's warm too. Kagura said +9 degrees at 6am! Rain is expected later on today though, followed by clearer conditions once again tomorrow.
But it will be all change by Monday night with snow - perhaps even a decent fall of snow - due into Tuesday along with much colder temperatures on the upper areas of Kagura.
The downhill course from the bottom of the Mitsumata slopes to the Mitsumata car park is also open for the weekend.

Warm and rainy conditions lasted through the night and were here to great us all this morning. Rain is forecast all across Hokkaido today, as a large, yet currently relatively mild, storm treks its way slowly across Japan's second largest island. It only got down to around 8 Celsius last night, so be prepared for a warm one day, with plenty of chances for showers. Winds are picking up as the storm gathers strength, and we should see most of the precipitation fall this evening. Read more ...

Sun, some cloud
The sun is out, blue skies and some fluffy clouds in the sky - and lots of smiles this morning as Zao Onsen opens up for the weekend. It's warm and more of the same tomorrow. Nice weather for Zao's comeback!
Today and tomorrow the Chuo, Paradise, Ohira and Takatori courses are open and serviced by the Chuo Ropeway, Sky Cable Gondola, Chuo No1 Pair, Chuo No2 Pair and Paradise Pair lifts.
Anyway, I am going out there to enjoy it. Have a good weekend.
Yesterday was more sun sun and sun along with warm conditions and early this morning it remains mild at 9 degrees. Clouds have been moving in though and it is not as bright this morning and we probably won't escape rain this afternoon. Clearer conditions return tomorrow.
Looking ahead a bit, conditions around Monday and Tuesday look quite interesting. While the open lower slopes will see some heavy rain, upper slopes are due for snowfall. And maybe a nice new blanket of it as well. Unfortunately those upper areas won't be opened up until Friday (see operations info below), but it doesn't look like things should warm up too much before then so if this all happens as per forecast, Saturday should be a good day to get out there...

All change with the weather today as the blue skies have gone and things are altogether more grey and cloudy. Actually things did start off fairly bright but hazy, but clouds have moved in over the last hour or so. Unfortunately, it has also started raining here in the village. It's fairly warm too, so perhaps too much to expect snow even higher up, but it might just happen - but I wouldn't expect too much from it though. The best we can hope for really is for things to clear up later this afternoon leaving us with more sunny conditions tomorrow.
Monday night into Tuesday? It's still looking really interesting. Heavy snow up top, heavy rain in the village? Maybe. Let's see how that develops as we get closer to it.
